The big fella should break through the 100 barrier for career Brownlow votes this season and move into 4th position among all Richmond players. The current top 10 list prior to this season is:-

1. Kevin Bartlett 160
2. Francis Bourke 139
3. Matthew Knights 114
4. Roy Wright 98
5. Matthew Richardson 96*
6. Jack Dyer 86
7. Geoffrey Raines 77 (including any he got elsewhere)
8. Wayne Campbell 70
9. Ron Branton 67
10. Kevin Sheedy 62

Roy Wright is the only Brownlow medallist on the list, winning it in 1952 and 1954. Ian Stewart won it in 1971 when playing for Richmond, but most of his 139 career votes were scored when he was at St Kilda.

Wow, 160 is a lot of votes without ever winning the medal (Bartlett). Anyone know what the record is?

As for Richo, he's a monty to break the ton this year.

According to AFL'98,
246 Gary Dempsey (Not bad for spending a career a kick behind play.)
202 Leigh Matthews (Don't think Lethal won one either.)
180 Bob skilton

Skilton won a few(3), Dempsey 1 and Matthews was a thug

Current day players: R.Harvey 193, Buckley 173, Crawford 148, Voss 143, West 141, Ricciuto 136, Cousins 124, Hird 111, Hird 111, Grant 109, McLeod 106 then Richo (ranked eq 78th all-time).

The figures quoted for Dempsey (55), Matthews (57), KB (47) and Bourkey (53) are inflated by 1976-77 numbers (in brackets) when both umpires voted.

Skilton averaged 0.76 votes per match (best all-time), Richo 0.43.

Looking at those stats make you realise what idiots people like Diggler & Laff are. Calling players like Richo, Cambell & Knights perenial losers!! ::) ::)

These guys would have been even better players if they were surrounded by quality players in our team.

Richo has had 18 Best on grounds (More than Dunstall, Lockett & Hird)

Knighta had a total of 23!! (comparable to Williams, Voss & Crawford)

and Cambo totalling 70 votes (more than Sheedy) to be 8th best ever in our history

So next time you make stupid comments (esp diggler) have a good look at these stats.

and oh yeah, GROW A BRAIN ::) ::) ::)

Excellent pickup LeeToRainesToRoach. To compare apples with apples then the votes of Bartlett, Bourke, Raines and Sheedy need to be halved in 1976-77 which would change the all-time Richmond leaders list to:-

1. Kevin Bartlett 136
2. Matthew Knights 114
3. Francis Bourke 113
4. Roy Wright 98
5. Matthew Richardson 96*
6. Jack Dyer 86
7. Geoffrey Raines 76 (including any he got elsewhere)
8. Wayne Campbell 70
9. Ron Branton 67
10. Maurice Rioli, Bill Morris 61

You can hero worship these hacks all you like, but the facts are they will lifelong members of the worst era
in RFC history.
But then again, the ferals just love underachevers!

So Diggler you reckon would have been succesful during Knight's era if he was replaced by Judd, despite the many duds on the list?

Haydn Bunton received 122 votes over 119 games for three medals (including medals in his first two seasons) which would have to rank him the best of all (1.03 votes per match). Add to that three Sandovers in four years at Subiaco and you're looking at a pretty handy player!

So if players like Knighs, Campbell & Richo were lucky enough to have been born in the early 50's and played in Richmond's Grand Final wins of 73-74 would you still consider them underachievers diggler???

You've really got no idea at all. ::) ::) ::)

Richmond as a "team" underachieved during this era not these players.

Try to use some common sense mate.

Good info Braddles, missed Bunton as I only did the averages for 200-game players.

Would like to mention the first Brownlow winner, Carji Greeves. He played 124 games between 1923-33, but polled all his 29 votes 1924-28. In those days only 1 Brownlow vote was given per match (for BOG obviously), which equates to 87 votes in 3s alone. He would presumably have polled a comparable number of 2s & 1s if they had been given.

Richmond, votes per game
I.Stewart 78 games, 45 votes, 0.57pg
M.Rioli 118, 61, 0.52
R.Wright 195, 98, 0.50
N.Brown 30 (to start of 2006), 15, 0.50
W.Barrot 120, 56, 0.47
M.Richardson 216, 96, 0.44

I only saw Royce Hart at the end c.1977, can anyone explain why he polled badly (46 votes in 187 games, Stafford also has 46)?
