the different roles of Greg Miller, versus Paul Armstrong, vs Francis Jackson? I don't really understand the differences...

Thanks!

1. Greg Miller is a Board Member overseeing all parts of the club and Director of Football overseeing football (playing list, coaches and a short term hands on role in recruiting).
2. Paul Armstrong is Football Manager who is a behind the scenes organiser of the playing side, with an emphasis on administration not coaching.
3. Francis Jackson is Head of Recruiting, though on a part time basis, as he works at Brighton Grammar.

thx, never really understood the difference between director of football and football manager.

What is Brian Royal's new title? Isn't it very close/similar to Miller's official title when he has his "employee" hat on and is reporting to CEO Steve Wright?

Brian Royal – Director of Coaching

I would doubt that there’s a better credentialed or more experienced assistant coach in AFL football than Brian Royal. Apart from winning premierships at country level, he has now been involved with four league clubs, and has put a great deal of time into studying and developing himself as an elite coach in the competition. It still baffles me how he has never been given the opportunity to coach at senior level. This oversight has been a bonus for the Richmond Football Club.

In 2006, we have developed Brian’s role even further, to the point where he will now be responsible for all coaches within our football division, either full-time, part-time or voluntary, as the Club’s Director of Coaching.

There is also the Football Director which is a Board position responsible for the football dept rather than an employed position.

I think Greg is officially listed as our recruiting manager for this year. Can't find the Fighting Tiger to check at the moment.

Director of Football is the more senior role with the emphasis on decision making. Usually this role reports directly to the Board, in GM's case he is on the board.

Football Manager's are administrators really looking after trainers, medical staff etc. They are often the 'right hand man' for the coach too acting as a sounding board. In some cases they will carry out the dirty work for the coach, the best example being John Reid and Malcom Blight sacking Jarman, McDermott and McGuiness at Adelaide before Blighty officially assumed the reins at the end of 1996.
