I think we will but we are looking pretty thin with Coburg going down over the last two weeks and no one really demanding selection in that time.

We have lost top liners in Coughlan, Newman and a potential star in Thursfield and Gas is yet to really impose himself. Stafford is gone and unless he has been given some sort of undertaking, shouldn't play 1sts again. Hall and Knoble are carrying injuries and both seem a long way from forcing their way back and making a significant contribution when they do.

From those still standing we barely have a side.

B Raines Gaspar Kellaway
HB Bowden Bowden Johnson
C Tambling Deledio Tivendale
HF Brown Richardson Pettifer
F Hyde Schulz Krakouer
R Simmonds Tuck Foley
Res Meyer Pattison Polo White.

After that I am afraid that at the moment we have little or no depth, which is going to make a serious tilt at finals pretty tough.

Ad Hartigan to the list. We've certainly copped our share of injures.
With 8 rounds to go there's still a long way to go yet. Just to make the finals would be a sensational effort.

We have a certain chance to make the top 6 but 7th or 8th does look to be where could finish IF we do make the finals.

As long as we play Collingwood in the first week.

Not with a % of 87 we can't. TW was saying today we need 13 wins just to make the 8. That's 5 out the next 8 -

On current form -
* Melbourne - 50/50 chance
* Sydney - no
* Saints - no
* Bulldogs - 50/50
* Lions - probable
* Carlton - probable
* Dons - probable
* West Coast - no

If we win the 3 we should (BIG IF) and one or two 50/50s we will finish 7/8th.

i could say we're only one game off the top 4 :hihi

but in reality our odds for making the 8 are about 50/50. i still disagree we need 13 wins, but i'll take it.

one area i think we are advantaged is that we have fresh legs. tw has done a great job with managing the kids this year and they won't burn out like a lot of kids usually do in the late stages of a season

It's there for the taking, but we have some very tough games coming up. The way the tigers are playing though, who's to say we won't finish higher than 6th? I thought the woods would beat us, then I thought we had a good chance against Port and we won that easily, so who's to say we can't? This tiger outfit is so exciting, anything's possible.

Melbourne, Sydeny, StKilda, Bulldogs and West Coast all want to play finals too so the Tiges will need to be "up" a for a good good stretch after a stretch that is already 8 from 11 - huge coaching effort - they'll be trying cos that's why you cross the while line each week - but I don't expect it, just hope for it. Still see a 10/11th finish - percentage agrees so far!

This has been the problem with the club in the past....pre-empting things.

Let's face it...we probably aren't even going to make the finals, let alone finsih top 6. The reality is that we have slipped under everyone's guard and next year could be a step backwards.

Whilst wallace is a good coach, he has got sub standard coaches around him and that has to be addressed.

We are a logn way off finals yet...

FWIW, Wallace said on WLF tonight that Hall will come straight back in this week providing he gets through training ok tomorrow (Thursday) and that he's been able to train a little bit through the week, but not fully yet.

Realisticaly the opportunity is there to make 6th position but probably unlikely. Where we are at the moment we would have to win 2 more games out of 8 than Collingwood (unbelievably easy draw) and Bulldogs, or 1 more than St Kilda and Swans. I think our chances rely on St Kilda and Swans faltering a little in the run home. Swans do look vulnerable at the moment. They have lost to Adelaide, St Kilda and Collingwood, all at home, and we play them there and have been reasonably competitive up there of late.

Winning 4 of 8 will most likely get us in the 8th spot, and 6 of 8 will give us a potential hit at 6th spot. Its all up to the Tigers, the next 4 weeks should give a fair indication of our true progress this year.

* Melbourne - 50/50 chance - A worry but in with a show
* Sydney - no - They are not in good form at the moment and we are a real chance - we beat them last time we played them on the SCG
* Saints - no - A worry but we are in with a chance - it was only 2 goals last time at the TD
* Bulldogs - 50/50 - the long season is starting to take its toll on their running style - we are a show
* Lions - probable - well in the hunt
* Carlton - probable - we will win
* Dons - probable - we will bolt in
* West Coast - no - they are off the boil at the moment but could be back and firing by rd 22 however we went within a point of them at the G last time

The supreme optimist would say 8 wins and no losses

The optimist would say 5 to 6 wins and 2 to 3 losses

The fence sitter would say 4 wins and 4 losses

The pessimist would say 2 to 3 wins and 5 to 6 losses

The extreme pessimist would say a hiding on Friday night with injuries and we won't even beat Essendon 0 wins and 8 losses

Which one are you?

Me I think - barring further injuries we are a very good chance in every game and could finish in the top 4 - wouldn't that shut a few mouths - the realist in me says we will win 4 to 5 in the run home - the sinking gut feeling tells me to brace myself for 9th position on percentage.

All that said I would love for our young guys to get a taste of finals footy - a "blooding" if you like - for once you get the taste you just simply got to have more!

Lasty and it is my opinion only - it would be great for the AFL and footy in general if the Tigers make the finals - after us being the laughing stock for so long it would vindicate the AFLs draft and salary cap systems - plus give other Vic clubs the knowledge it can be done against the odds of this lop-sided competition.
