Richo,Bowden,Brown,Simmonds,Johnson & Cousins all at the end of this yr ?
I know hardly any of them are giving us anything, but if we delisted all of them,we still have alot of dead wood to clear etc, meaning roughly a 3rd of the list would be turned over & by all accounts this yr's draft is not deep.
Maybe keep Richo & perhaps Bowden (form permitting) & Cousins (fitness permitting) for 1 mr yr ?
Be one hell of a send of game if all 6 retired.
Thoughts ?
The key point that many people (ferals if you wish) are missing here about delisting all of the 30+'s is that we're only likely to pick up 4 players in the ND and promote maybe 2 rookies (Nahas and Browne at this stage). It means if we delist more than 6 players, (ie. all of six 30+'s and some other deadwood - say Schulz and Hughes), we go into next year with a short list.
Going into next year with a short list is a strategically dumb thing to do given the compromised drafts that are coming up.
The problem really manifests on the talls
We can't, from a structure perspective delist Schulz, Hughes, Richo and Simmo as we'd be delisting 4 taller types - something we unfortunately don't have in abundance. ATM we have Post, Putt, Vickery, Patto, Gus, Richo, Simmo, Schulz, Hughes, and Gourdis and Browne on the rookie list. Put it another way, two dinosaurs, two could-a-beens (schulz, hughes) and 5 other "no certainties", and 2 rookies. What ever way you look at it, given the drafts that will be coming up over the next few years, we're playing russian roulette with our list management, especially as it relates to talls - not really a great situation given our track record.
We're really in a stupid position where we need to hold onto some older players because we haven't recruited enough talls in the past to cover our basic needs.
(ps. i think ive read too many posts from claw)
