Can we realistically beat the Saints? [MERGED]

So then,

St Kilda Richmond:
B: Fisher, Hudghton, Voss Raines, Schulz, Thursfield
HB: Gram, Maguire, Baker Deledio, Hall, Hartigan
C: DalSanto, Hayes, Goddard Tuck, Coughlan, Newman
HF: Hamill, Riewoldt, Montagna P.Bowden, J.Bowden, Roach
F: Watts, Gehrig, Milne Pettifer, Richo, Brown
R: Blake Ball Harvey Simmonds Johnson Foley
Int: Peckett Thompson Tivendale Krakouer
Ackland & Clarke Knobel Tambling

I still think Meyer's got a bit of a way to go yet. Another extra 10kg for him and he's in the side for sure.

I hope Limbach & McGuane fire up in the forward line for Coburg. If they do, then opportunity will definitely come knocking.

better,

4 talls in the saints setup - might have to play a Bowden in the back half - hate to put one in there though

not a lot of run on the bench or chase & tacklers in the fwd line

Understand, but I've got a gutfeel that Watts won't play in a fp. Madsaintsguy doesn't think he'll be in the side. Watts had plenty of room at Subiaco and did nothing. His dad might keep him in the side.

If Watts does play in a fp then you could swap Raines with J.Bowden. You never know, if Archer can play on Richo, then maybe Raines can play on Watts.

The other trend i can see becoming v obvious after 8 games is the continued rise of the quick small forward.

Brown is perfect at this, but if he's going to be nursed thru the first half of the year i worry our forward line is going to look v slow most weeks.

There's always a place for 1 gun quick, smart tall forward (Lloyd, Hall) but slow talls (Neitz, Q. Lynch) looked worse than ever on the weekend and quick smalls who could lead and mark well (Williams, B. Johnson and Ricciuto if you count him as a 'small') looked unstoppable when the ball is flying about so quickly.

Krak and Foley aren't this guy, sadly our current best option is the same bloke who we need being QB off the back flank - Lids!

Hughes will be the guy. But I'd still, initially, give him at least half a season at Coburg to get a few goals under his belt. But let's get the ball flying out of the centre quickly and accurately first.

Tigerextra, your post was spot on. Was just sitting here comtemplating the same thing. If we win this week there will be a part of me that is really pissed off. How come we need a complete flogging to come out and play decent football.

Wasn't it 1994 or something when Pagan first took over and the Kangas got absolutely belted in the pre-season comp....and then went on to make the finals 10 years straight or something? ???

Maybe a kick in the arse like we received, at such an early stage of the season, is exactly the tonic we needed?

Maybe we just thought we'd mosey-along and make the top-8, and we got a rude awakening...

Usually we'd cop some beltings after we are 5-1 or 7-2 (like last season) and we all keep a small hope we'll make the finals.
But having a loss like we did, in the first round, we can take action straight away....and change our season around.

Last Saturday, I had made my mind up I was not going this week.....I thought, "stuff'em"!
But now....actually looking forward to how we respond.

My thoughts are that we will bounce back hard.

Tigers by 2pts. Deledio goal on the final siren !

Saints arrogance & over confidence will be their downfall.

I think i'll be Happy satisfied if we can stay within 30 - 40 points to be honest :help
Sorry to say this, but, being happy with that sort of margin is why we are where we are as a Football Club at the moment, accepting "good" defeats!!

Agree with you Cambo!

The time for 'honourable losses' is at an end....I don't want to hear (or see) another honourable loss where on Monday we're talking about the 'boys gave 100%' and we 'were beaten by a better team on the night' and another load of garbage.

The Saints are human....."if it bleeds, it can be killed"! ;D

the players have got to be fired up, and not be scared about making mistakes....need some physicality in the middle, ruffle a few feathers....quick movement down to the forward line.....running in packs to tackle.....C'MON!!!!!!!!!

My biggest concern tonight is where are our goals going to come from.

Terry Wallace is going to have to coach his arse off tonight and pull some surprise moves up forward if we are going to get anywhere near the 'Aints based on our 5 previous outings.

Browny - Still underdone
Richo - Hasn't done anything against them previously and has been well held.
Stafford - Too Slow?
Petiffer - not physical enough?

Midfielders - who don't hurt the scoreboard.

16 goals is looking like a pipedream.
