I reckon we'll win a lot more than that. I think we've improved quite a bit and I'm not sold on the talent of about another five or so teams.
I reckon Carlton, Richmond, Esserden, and Melbourne are much of a muchness ATM. That Esserden Carlton game on the weekend was a debacle. A filthy shootout between long term losers with a sixteen point result. Spoon candidates both.
And I don't buy Brisbane. I saw them beat Collingwood two weeks back and I reckon the pies will flog em by ten goals next time they play. We'd be a big show against Brisbane, too.
Anyways ATM I reckon we'll win six or better.
It looks to me like Geelong are a long way ahead of the pack.
Hawthorn, Collingwood, StKilda, Adelaide and North will all have their moments but will ultimately come up short of Geelong's class. Sydney will most likely hang around the upper echelon but only as nuisance value. If the weekend did anything, it showed that Geelong have the class to shrug off a week of distractions, play poorly but still come through easily-the sign of a really good team.
Freo and the Bullies will fight it out for the last spot in the eight-if they get lucky they might both make it, displacing someone from the group above when they self-destruct.
West Coast look like they will take a step or two back this year.
Brisbane? Port Adelaide? Unlikely. PA made the GF last year on the back of good coaching, an enthusiastic group of kids who flew under the radar for a big part of the season and the undoubted class of the Cornes', the Burgoynes and Brendan Lade. It is too much to expect that they will keep performing at that level for two years. If injuries don't get them, then the increased attention that comes with a raised profile will.
With Brisbane, just for how long can they expect to win games purely on the back of Brown, Power, Black and Lappin? They are two long-term injuries away from holding the ubiquitous "When should we start tanking?" Board meeting.
Carlton, Essendon, Richmond and Melbourne have already held their secret meeting. Melb set he date befoe the season started adn Carlton after round 1. Richmond will probably ratify theirs at the next Board Meeting. The Dons will kid themselves for a few more weeks.
