For mine we have 3 genuine leaders at the moment and two of them are off the field. (I am not counting Cogs here for the time being as he has been injured for a couple of years) For mine it would be between Simmonds, Bowden and Nathan Brown. Hopefully Browny can get on the park sooner rather than later.

It would be a fitting reward for Joel at this stage of his career.

Good choices. I would really like to see a Richmond-born, Richmond bred captain. Another reason I'd like to see Bowden over Simmonds or Brown.

Forget Johnson. He will be lucky to stay on the list. Forget Brown, Cogs and Simmo as they all have serious injuries and we may not know until next year after a full pre-season, if they are a realistic chance to return to their best.
Sorry to his fanclub but forget Newman, who is at best a loose checking defender and an as yet untried and unproven midfielder.

To me that leaves Bowden, Deledio, Foley and Richo as realistic choices.

From this group there are two quite opposite strategies available. A senior to carry us through until Deledio is ready or the best available junior, at this point in time. So Richo or Foley?

My vote would be Richo but that support is more emotion than good sense. Rather there is a third possibility which I believe will gain momentum as the pre-season progresses.

If you want the best or someone who is soon to be elite, why wait for years?

So Brett the job be yours.

There is an article on the club website today talking about Brett Deledio, showing signs of becoming a leader.

Interesting Jools.
I wonder if the PR push to name a young captain just clicked into gear?...

IMO Bowden or Richo as the next captain.

My vote the Richo Man !!! ;D & after Richo, Bowden IMO should be the captain until he retires. After that Lids.

My reasoning is purely simple. Their passion to be at the club no matter what, is the most important thing.

I also found the quote from Terry Wallace recently quite interesting: "We weren't after a future leader at the time. We needed a doer straight away and Kane was the standout once we went through the process."
I think the future leader has been identified. :)
