captain JOHNSON must never be lost to the CLUB

best to bring this back up in support of the feral thread trying to get rid of him

If having a different view to yourself about a player makes me a feral, so be it. I still believe that Johnson is to slow and the possesions he racks up rarely hurt the opposition but often hurt us.

Nothing wrong with having a view milk man.

Johnson has been a champion player which is why, for better or for worse, he was recruited. After a bad injury affected year last year it is really a treat to see the guy show what he can do and do consistently.

I also think that next year Suga should hand the captaincy over but in all honesty I am not sure to whom. I understand that Newman is being groomed as the heir aparrant but seriously you have to be able to lead on the field as well as off it and I have never viewed Newman as a particularly great or inspiring player on the field nor one who has a different mental gear capable of lifting his game and by extension the games of those around him. He's handy but on the field he is hardly a champion.

In all honesty, on the field, only Simmons is showing the type of qualities I'd like to see in a captain outside of Suga. The guy is really busting a gut to make a difference to his footy (remember his private athletics training seesions). Its showing in his performances too. Not often you see a ruckman put the ball under his arm, pin his ears back and decide to dash away from his pursuers. In fact the last time I saw it was in old replay of the donut sprinting the ball out of defence by foot - he could play. Ottens is not going to enjoy Simmons as his first opponent back from injury. He'll give that delicate donut tootsie a workout as well.

Axl would fit great into captaincy role. hard at it and becoming very skilled an a catalyst for the Tiges.
Agree with milko that Sugar is too slow and as the season wears on he will fade out and this should be his last year. Is not part of the future of the Tiges which should evolve around pace and skills, both hand and foot.

there is also a guy called cogs who was once earmarked for the captaincy wasn't he?

yeah getting back from his injuries will be a monumental effort but if he can do it we have a ready made leader.

i was pretty happy watching the burgers yesterday, saw a few trademark in and under moments and a creative handball or two that set up goals. well done cogs.

and i've been a bit of a sugar-basher too but i'll eat my beanie and say he's been great for us this year. I have no doubt he's contributed significantly to richmond's dominance at the stoppages in recent games and deserves all the accolades.
