Careful Handling!

Frezer, I'd suggest having a read of Disco's post regarding quoting http://www.puntroadend.com/yabbse/index.php?topic=26287.0

In regards to not wanting to go 3-19 - Why not? ??? 3-19 will almost certainly get us the #1 or #2 pick.

(Melbourne wouldn't draft a ruckmen)

O-22
1-21
12-10

can we really order up our preferred win loss ratio?

in that case let's go 17 and 5 and win the flag ;D

Normally clubs tank by dropping senior players and playing their younger development players but in our case, as we've just seen, playing the 'kids' only makes us more competitive

If we want to tank we will have to send Deledio Hughes and Tambling back down to the magoos

A question I ask is, At season's end will we be judged on a par with Essendon if all we manage is 3 wins just like they did last year?

I doubt it. We'll be judged against our past history though. Terry has judged us as improved team in his time citing improved ladder positions so only 3 wins would be seen as a massive failure.

I can't be bothered guessing the future, I'll believe it when I see it. L2R posted the under 25's at clubs and we're one of many arund the 28 mark. Our future hopes and premiership windows are largely pinned on those kids but all clubs would be thinking the same. Some will make it and some won't, some club's kids could be better than ours or vice versa.

We've been hearing about futures for 25 years. Footy is now for me. No speculation for a few years time. I go every week to see what we are doing now and I go expecting Richmond to give their all.

It would be an absolute disgrace to finish bottom of the ladder and serious questions would need to be asked. We need to rid this club of the losing culture before the kids get infected too.

If we finish with 3 wins as the question has been asked it doesn't matter how others judge us, we'll have some serious questions to be asking ourselves (as in RFC).

This thread is up the creek. Won't quote properly and accusing me of saying things I haven't.
Just to help you out:

If we know that, and the hierarchy know that, let's take the 0-22 and suppliment our list even further, rather than a 3-19, 4-18, 5-17, 6-16 nowhere year again. 9th to 12th mean nothing.

This is what I didn't say (refer below):

Sure and then we'll be scratching our heads wondering whats going on when the likes of Lids and any other player we're hoping will be at the club for years to come decides they'd like to go elsewhere because we went throught the season with no wins. We have a young list, what do you think it will do to their confidence going through the season without a win? Morale will be at an all time low and do you really think players will want to stick around for that?

We haven't won any games yet and look at the posts that have been on this message board recently. You think the players want to cop that and the media scrutiny for the next 17 games? Sure lets tank and get the number 1 draft pick and the high picks that follow we'll need them to replace our previous early picks who have gone to other clubs to actually win a game.

I've fixed it up for you all now. :grouphug

I remember in the early to mid-90's when a mob of very young Brisbane players called Voss, Lappin, Leppitsch, Akermanis, Scott etc. were copping floggings week in, week out - season after season. They certainly weren't tanking games but gee I would've liked to have known what might have been had they not learned that success was never going to be handed to them on a platter.

Obelisk makes a reasonable point, but these guys weren't top draft picks that came from tanking. They also had the benefit of Lynch returning to health, getting Chris Johnson from Fitzroy, Mal Michael from Collingwood and Brown through the Father/Son rule.

I've said it before and I'll say it again, no-one has ever won a flag through bottoming out. The team that came closest was St Kilda and look at where they are now.

According to those wiser than I, there will be at least four ruckmen in the top 20 draft picks next year. We don't need to finish 0-22 to get one of them.

We need a winning culture and never-say-die attitude. Anything else is a cop out and will mean that we will never be successful.

Thanks for giving me the chance to get that off my chest. I feel better now.
