If you want to tank for picks and play kids on the basis of age rather than form you're asking for trouble. I'm disgusted at a loser mentality that's happy to see our kids flogged rather than have them come though the ranks and be played on merit. I'm not just referring to today's game either. Losing seeps through the fabric of the club and if spots are gifted, rather than earned, there isn't the same honour and respect for the jumper. Our future generation have been given a pretty clear message recently that losing is acceptable if everything possible to avoid it isn't done. We need to develop a winning culture, a culture where losing simply isn't acceptable. Geez I hope the process finally churns out a decent coach, a ruthless coach who does everything he can to win every game we play in.

It's worse when you have a current coach who's settled in (e.g Wallace in 2007) compared to our current status with a caretaker coach and players who know they won't be at the club next season.

Most of our players are now playing in an individualist mentality.

I'm not for one second suggesting we tanked today. I'm referring to those who have harped on mercilessly about it and their desire for us to lose games.

Rosy, I agree with the sentiment but geez, they would not have to try too hard to lose at the moment- the way they are being asked to play does it anyway. I ask, why are we so handball happy, putting the receiver under so much pressure that the ball is coughed up ad nauseum.

But, I do actually agree with the President- we are not THAT bad. As others have said, a hard-nosed Coach who accepts no excuses and asks them to play hard uncompromising footy would be a big improvement on what we are seeing. Some other players whose skill does not disappear under pressure would also be required.

We will not win another game this year, and to be honest, that is what I am hoping for. At least that may result in the Club getting some of the aforementioned new players it so desperately requires. And I might even renew my Membership, which has spanned 30 years to date. Am feeling as low about this Club as I ever have been during that time.

If we'd have taken this path years ago we wouldn't be talking about this now.

You're presuming that we'd have done something with the early picks we would have got. Our recruiters would have stuffed them up just like they have with the JON pick and missing Buddy (no disrespect to Tambling intended).

I don't agree. We've had decent picks in recent years and either traded them or not managed to get top players with them.

Just because the draft hasn't worked for Richmond doesn't mean it doesn't work.

Huh? I wasn't talking about the draft in general. I was responding to a comment about Richmond.

rosy23, what you don't understand is that although it's great to get a win on the day in the long run it much more beneficial for the club to lose. to get pick 2 or 3 instead pick 5 or 6 makes a huge difference (in saying that it doesn't really matter what picks we get as the Richmond of Old always see to screw it up).

I, like you, hate seeing my team losing and every week when I go to the footy I want to see my team win but I do deep down understand why it is far more beneficial in the long run for the Tigers to lose and get higher picks.

In my opinion this whole wanting teams to finish last business is the worst part of our great game. A lottery for the bottom 4 or 8 would be a much better solution.

I haven't seen too much evidence of that being the case. How many wooden spoons do recent premiers like Hawks, Geelong, Lions and Swans have between them?

2nd last is just as good.
