my main criticism of miller in regards to gilmore is not that he took him but where in the draft he took him.
Good point.

It's fair to say Miller is a high risk-taker when it comes to recruiting. Sometimes he gets it spectacularly right, other times very wrong.

In a way I prefer that approach to safety first, mundane, middle-of-the-road choices. Given where we have been in the competition in recent years we need all the Deledios and Tucks we can get, by whatever means it takes.

i feel for norman in some ways.i never grew up up until the ripe old age of 23 life was one big party up until then.in fact i can blame er ah thank mrs claws for getting me on the straight and narrow, i dont know who says we should stack all women 10 high at the tip hes wrong its only most of them  :rofl anyway i suppose what im trying to say is some grow up faster than others. if we all recognised and took the opportunities presented to us in life we would all be geniuses which we all certainly are not.especially those bright eyed ferals . :rofl

so what do you think of karl norman and where does his career sit?
as an out sider i would say norman is just an average kid experiencing the highs and lows of growing up.
as for his career well his afl one at least i would say its over. clubs dont have the luxury of waiting around for youngsters to mature both mentally and physically and noman certainly has a lot of growing up to do still.

Agree Claw. Why does a persson have to give something his best shot just because he has the talent to do so? If the kid doesn't want to play AFL footy then that's his choice. He might think there are more important things in life at the moment, maybe he might regret it later on, maybe he just doesn't want the committment and pressures that AFL footy bestows on you. Hardly makes him a sad case. Sad cases are for those who get caught up in the wrong crowds, and are drug addicts at 16, and spend the rest of their lives doing crime. Let's get the context of this right here.

As someone said, if he doesnt want to commit, move on and give the chance to someone that does.

Cheers

Your hard to figure out Claw.Isnt the Norman situation very similar to that of Gilmour.Yet you seem to blame it squarely on the shoulders of Greg Miller.
my main criticism of miller in regards to gilmore is not that he took him but where in the draft he took him.
Agree,Most were surprised how early Gilmour was drafted.

We seem to be back on Gilmour - the main criticism of Miller isn't that he took a risk, it is that the risk didn't come off! If you take a risk you also have to take extra care - and the greater the risk, the greater the care. I may be too far away from the club but was any extra care taken with Gilmour (ways to mature the country boy) or was it a case of here's the club lad get in there and win!

OK, Gilmour was a Miller/Beck mistake, and perhaps Archibald too.

Balance that against Lids, Bling

also you can compare tambling to franklin did miller make the right choice.not if list needs come into it.

Depends on wether you want talented midfield types cutting through the lines delivering lace out into space on your forward line or a ringaroundarosy midfield playing pass the parcel before delivering to a congested forward line.

What are the chances of Carl Norman going to the Dockers and making it the Harvey Norman show there?

Or Carl Norman could do a duet with Chris Connolly of that old Chris Norman song "stumblin In"
