While they got us on the day, I reckon in hindsight it was a great result.

They believed they were better than they were and we had to face the fact that we weren’t good enough without working strategically on things. The trajectory of both sides since that day has been a complete contrast in planning, preparation and identifying realities.
And they haven't beaten us since.

"Oh are they"?

"That's nice"!

"Our guys are pissed and ready to maul the entire competition and win our 4th flag in 6 years to make up for last year".

Phhhhht what is he, a Septic or something??
After being stitched up game after game for years, one might expect he'd be " quietly " in fact very quietly optimistic about round one. Perhaps even waiting until such time as they actually beat us before making a noise.

Yeah, you have to be optimistic before the season especially after a lot of lean years. I'm sure we were expecting to beat Carlton before just about every season opener in the bad old days.

I can understand optimism, I can understand being a bit gung ho about it, but if we maul them in round 1 then they can't complain about any blowback they get.

Their fans think they will beat us easy in the first round esp in the midfield. As they now think they have a top /super midfield . And they think our midfield players are old and finished .
Time will tell . Hope we smash em .

Ha. That's not the Carlton way! However, tides have to change sometime. Might be closer this year ... maybe. First game of the season really means little anyway.

Jones is easily their #1 back.

I’m less a Weitering hater than I used to be and I even admire his groundwork and ground skills. He has improved tremendously in the air. But he can still be exposed aerially. Maybe he’ll improve given more responsibility. I’ll believe it when I see it.

Marchbank was a very important player when they could get him right. He and Jones could get to any aerial contest and halve them all. Many classes above Weitering.

It is worth remembering that SOS took a back pocket player with the #1 pick in the National Draft. Because back pocket players are hard to find.

Did Clayton Oliver go in that draft? A back pocket player over a midfielder.

Good news for Carlton - perhaps their #1 ND pick can, after seven years in the system graduate from back pocket to full back. At Carlton full backs are hard to get.

I was just thinking that perhaps the situation is not irredeemable. Next time Carlton gets #1 pick in the ND, and that can’t be too far away, they can aim a bit higher and take a full back.

Because at Carlton full backs are really hard to come by.

They will miss Jones. He was pretty much a rock in defence.
Don't know why all this hype over Carlton.
Think we might have a bit of a fight on our hands in the opening game, but still expect to do them over.

Unless Voss can improve them by another 10% I can’t see them making the eight. I think all the hype is actually hope after being in the wilderness for so long.
