PUNT ROAD END | Richmond Tigers Forum

Have a few thoughts that just don't sit right in the way things have developed this year with the way Carlton have gone about their business.

My impressions are its like they did a blantant bltch slapped to the AFL to the point the AFL just turned the other cheek in pure denial or ...

Firstly I look at the tanking issue as the threads here alone point towards them tanking. Dumetriou refusing to even contemplate it occuring. So many in the media, public, Carltons own wishing it to happen, sacking a coach (who imo didn't wish to tank), a new coach who I believed was told don't win and was appointed as soon he achieved the losses ( when media statements are made by the club on no emphasis to win), fake injuries by players and player dragging when in winning positions.

Secondly, Judd. Well just looking at his thread as well says it all that $$$$$ can buy some people. I go further with the article listed today in Western Australian papers about these two issues by Nisbett claims Carlton tanked & the Eagles were force to deal with Carlton when in reality they wanted to close the deal with RICHMOND !!.. see link below (and add the 2million 1st year contract)

Thirdly and almost obscurely and in the same draft you notice that the Lions were dealt the same cards as the Eagles by.... Carlton to snag another premiership player by throwing $$$$$. Richard Hadley to Leigh Matthews frustration tells the club as well Its Carlton only !!! Gezz funny co-incidence, I think not and with Judd getting all the media attention this almost slipped through the keeper ! .. see link

Strong drafting on their part and in some way you congratulate them for manipulating the rules to achieve their personal glory.

IMO Carlton might have learnt how to disguise monetary payments better to draw the best player to their club. Also I believe the AFL will continue to sit back & deny everything and my gut feeling you will see next year that somehow Carlton will get the best draw they have had in years, oh that would be interesting

If I was in the AFL I would seriously wait till all was settled and surprise Carlton with a full audit and hire forensic accountants to dig deeper than ever before and go outside the square on player payments.

.Changes I would like to see is a random draw to select the first eight picks for the clubs outside the clubs& would kill all talk of tanking.
.Place limitations on player yearly payments ( to never allow a $2mill price tag) similar to the min wage well have a maximum wage (ie 1.2mill)
.Be able to trade PSD picks
.No priority picks
.If a club is found to have cheated in their salary cap that actual player involved in the breach be banned from playing for a year (on pay). Furthermore if the breach was found years later & the player had retired I would add that breached amount back for two years to the club as part of their salary cap calculation on top of a fine.
