Name one player who has improved under Voss? By my reckoning the entire list has underperformed, Hewett was very good last year, this year he has looked pedestrian. Cripps has struggled after winning a Brownlow, Walsh has lost his mojo with hitting targets on a regular basis, Docherty seems to lack a fixed position, Weitering nowhere near his AA form, the twin towers in Curnow & McKay can't kick straight, Cerra seems to be used as a clearance player which he aint, Saad looks like a headless chicken. I reckon a new coach will do wonders, plenty of upside in Carlton's list.
Cerra and McGovern both AA quality

Yes to the former, no to the latter. McGovern very overrated, I think he pulled a Josh Jenkins and got rich off the back of one solid season, I reckon a new coach might be tempted to upgrade that position.

Wierdly, you just named two who improved under him. Whilst currently down on form you do realise Cripps won his brownlow under Voss and Hewett had his best year in the system under him last season as well. Curnow also has elevated his game.

Anyway, not a huge fan of Voss at all. But list management has screwed Carlton's chances of having a team capable of contending - huge $$$ on Martin, McGovern, Williams, McKay etc. And supporters/board are waaayyy ahead of themselves rating the team. Not a great spot for any coach to be in.

I think Voss himself has gone backwards, the body language when addressing players seems to be of a man at the end of his tether, the failure to make finals last year having a significant impact. I think it's clear he has lost support from the playing group, the gameplan a case of bombing it long and hoping the talls catch it and kick straight. Last year it was a case of two halves, there was the new coach bounce, something we've seen numerous times, most famously with the Unleash the Giesh campaign, then it was back to mediocrity and ultimately choking. Cerra has been mismanaged despite his stats looking better, he was recruited as a finisher but has been tasked with winning clearances, something which he isn't naturally adept at doing. Hewett has fallen off a cliff, culminating in becoming a sub (terrible choice for this role) and both Coleman medalists bereft of confidence. Since round 10 of last year Carlton have played 20 matches and only won 7, that's almost a full season's worth of matches and would place them near the cellar if it was a season proper, things in freefall which began mid 2022.

As for the list management & recruitment, much better since SOS left, I like their picks from last draft and I hope to see Binns out there this week. The spine looks solid, maybe lacking one key defender & their midfield balanced enough to be competing with the likes of Melbourne & Collingwood. The problem is the gameplan & this rests solely with the coach. No surprises if Voss is replaced mid season.

Did anyone see the Carlton blokes turn up to the club last night??
Seriously no coach would last a month with those blokes having so much influence in the running of the club.

Voss might not be a great coach, but he has gone to a club where the expectations far outweigh the ability of the list.

The general public (only need to read on here) and the media think they are good enough to contend. No chance.

Sure they have an elite top end, but the team has massive holes in it. Look at their bottom 6.

Acres, Silvagni, Ed Curnow, Fisher, Honey, Kemp, Kennedy, Martin, McGovern, O'Brien, Owies et al are all very average AFL players yet nearly all are routinely picked.

Most wouldn't get a game at other teams and if they did wouldn't impact.

And they are stuck with not being able to improve because so much money is tied up with the most expensive on long term deals.

Williams 2026, Young 2026, Pittonet 2027 McKay 2030 etc. On top of Cripps, Curnow, Walsh (rightly) big money deals.

They are an average team, with average overall talent, with no easy way out. Crazy Vossy didn't realistically have much chance.

It's beautiful.
Agree their bottom six is awful. And they are so one paced besides Saad.

List management has been awful. Fancy giving Pittonet four years. 50 games in 9 years!!

Zac Williams, Jack Martin, Blake Acres all overpaid flankers and wingers.

I am of the belief the coach has lost the players. Their body language is no different to when the end came for Bolton and Teague.

Cripps for the player he is, is not captain material. Maybe it’s the burden of never playing in a final but when the *smile* hits the fan he hasn’t got the capacity to lead the team out of it.

It's Silivagni
He is a shocking list manager.
The same mistakes he made at GWS he brought to Carlton.
McGovern, nothing like his brother. His career is off the back of a match winning mark he took against Collingwood in 2017.
Newman is good if your a bottom 6 side.
Acres is a VFL quality footballer.
Martin is there best small foward but he is too Injury prone.
Williams was brought in off the back of his 2018 preliminary final performance against Collingwood.
What's wrong with Fisher?
He was quality a couple of yrs ago.
Owies and Durdan are too slow as small forwards the don't apply any pressure.
Silivagni wouldn't get a game at a top 6 side. Very average footballer.
Overall there drafting is horrendous.
Dow, Obrein, Kemp, Cowan, Cunningham
That's there 5 under 30

I can’t tell you how much joy I am getting out of watching this disgusting club implode on and off the field. It’s making our demise more bearable. Carlton games have become compulsory viewing for me just for the melts.

If I'm a prospective coach I'd be viewing Carlton's list with optimism, the bottom 6 easily fixed, especially with a few talented types like Binns, Cowan & Hollands coming through the ranks. Walsh, Cerra, Weitering, Curnow & McKay still in the sweet spot in terms of age profile. You may have a point about being slightly one paced, I think they need one more well rounded mid, probably another key defender. Cowan replaces Docherty, Cripps harder to replace but finding a clearance specialist not impossible.

Agree, Carlton’s list management has been atrocious. Maxed out their cap bringing in a bunch of very mediocre talent before even playing finals! Now find themselves stuck in no-man’s land, too good for bottom four and not good enough for top 4.

Cain Liddles attempts to bring in B Ellis and Butler was exactly the right call for their list at the time but SOS (and his considerable ego) wouldn’t have any of it and blew it all up.

Anyway, I still have vivid memories of Carlton ferals carrying on like they’d won a GF after they beat us in the 2013 EF when they shouldn’t have even been there. To that end I say, suck it Carlton!

They have to make room in salary cap end of year.

It's pretty amusing watching fans of the club give themselves haemorrhoids over the situation, particularly those ringing the radio stations and making clowns of themselves - and for what?

I get that people are passionate and Carlton's fan base is supposedly one of the most passionate, but anyone basing their day-to-day happiness around how the team performs (which is entirely beyond the fans' control) needs to re-evaluate their life.

The fact is, the players don't share the same passion for the club as supporters do - especially in this case anyway.

I support the club and the monogram - and the club will always be there, has been for almost 160 years and will be long after we've all nourished the earth's worms.

Players, boards and coaches come and go and the current group will be forgotten about, because mark my words - this group is cooked. There's no premiership in this group. That's the reality.

Agree- except between 2017-2020. When your team is winning you should totally base your day-to-day happiness on that!
