Carlton are circling West Coast first-round pick Campbell Chesser as they eye more athletic ball users for 2026.

7NEWS understands Chesser is weighing up an approach from the Blues or re-committing to the Eagles where he has a two-year contract offer.

The 22-year-old impressed in the final four matches of the season after ankle surgery in February derailed the early stages of his campaign.

Carlton and Essendon are just incapable off field. Worse than us in the early to mid 2000s. They aren’t prepared to do the hard work with their list and be patient enough. Carlton 5 best players came through high draft picks and then went out and bought a series of mediocre players. Saad, McGovern plus 5 gws players and 5 GC players, swans midfielder etc. Essendon no better. Problem with clubs with supporters with serious money who then join boards and coteries. Because they made a *smile* tonne of money they think they know something about football.
Reckon with Essendon its more to do with their recruiting. They must have a whole team taken under 30 in the nd and still they struggle.

They have nine current players taken from other clubs and only one Shiel cost them significantly.
Mostly F/a and late picks make up their list of players from other clubs.

People are kidding themselves if they think at some point we wont be doing similar you cannot build from the nd alone.

CHESSER FEELS BLUES OVER EAGLES

Out-of-contract West Coast midfielder Campbell Chesser is said to be “leaning towards” requesting a trade to Carlton.

The No.14 pick in the 2021 Draft had a difficult start to his career but finally found some form at the back end of the 2025 season, after playing 18 games.

The Eagles have offered Chesser a two-year deal but Essendon is interested and Carlton is the frontrunner to land him, according to The West.

He is said to be good friends with Harley Reid, which could yet convince Chesser to stay.

“I think it’s a real credit to Campbell. I spoke to him the other day about how difficult a position it is when you’re a player that’s out of contract and you haven’t had much opportunity,” Eagles coach Andrew McQualter said before their final game of the season.

“You need a lot of grit to be able to put your focus towards what’s important and he’s done a great job with that. I think we’ve all seen the last three weeks what we were hoping we would see from Campbell as a player, and he’s got a really exciting future with our football club.”

They can target whoever they like the BLues.

If they lose Curnow after losing TDK they are done as far as challenging with the bulk of this list getting on now.

Walsh is crocked with his back, and whilst Hewett has been great for them, the war horses in Waitering and Cripps who have carried the joint for their entire careers are getting on

Cripps showed some signs of duress this year I think he is on the decline. his body has taken a battering and he is what 31 next year? And Docherty is gone who was a senior character and much respected and loved leader at Princes Park.

The moves the Blues make this off season could have some real gravitas or if they get them wrong some real gravity.

The coteries from those two clubs going at it would be worth viewing.

Wrighting the ship ?

If Cook cannot get the management systems in place at that club, them Wright is going to have to blow torch it down.

Another 10 years in the wilderness at least....

The more concerning issue 3 of the top 5 from the B&F are kids from other clubs.
When Nick Haynes finishes 5th you must know deep down your not a top 4 side
