Picking May and Fritsch - this is their Grand Final.
One with a fractured eye socket, the other with a broken hand. All well n good to do a couple of run throughs at training, but it's something altogether different to put in a full game of footy n stay in the right head space. Big call by the Smelbourne match committee, hope it blows up in their faces.

If anyone remembers, in 2018 the demons smashed all the teams 4th and below but got smashed by the top 3 teams (Richmond, west coast and Collingwood). They beat top 8 sides geelong by 29, hawthorn by 33, giants by 45 and lost by 9 points to the swans. But they lost by 46 to the tigers, lost by 42 to the pies and lost by 66 to the eagles. Lets see if their game-plan can stack up against the elite teams this year or if they will just be the bullies again and go missing when they play the best teams

Pickett, Dave Noah
Personally, thought it was an excellent game in which to play Chol or CCJ. Really tough for Nank to attempt to combat Gawn, about 10cm taller, and Godeez play Jackson - a promising young ruck who is good around the ground too.

I think this one-ruck tactic comes with inherent risks. If Nank goes down, big trouble.

It's a strange feeling when early on in the season it seems like the game is so much more important to our opposition than us

I know we gotta bank some wins, but I can't wait till we put our foot down after the bye and start taking scalps when it counts

RCD has to debut not as an emergency.

CCJ for the sub I reckon, not his debut.

I would have put CCJ in but we played well last week so you can't blame them for no change.

Yer, I think I agree with that, although a mid as sub provides a lot more flexibility. But hard to drop anyone out of a team that wins by 86 pts.

No way should either Balta or Astbury go in the ruck. Our defence looked at its best last week due to it not being unsettled because one of those two going into the ruck.

I tend to agree.

Which begs the question: who gives Nank a break?

Pickett is an interesting one, unbelievable leap but can he do second ruck? Not sure against really tall rucks, mind you, he could certainly inflict a bit of pain.

Been saying it for weeks. Especially without Vlastuin. Just creates scoring opportunities for opponents in a fairly short backline when a KPF rucking.
Not to mention risking leg injury to our KPD who are not that experienced as ruck specialists.

Oh East Melbourne!
I just don’t think we care all that much about the second ruck to be honest. Unless you have a true ability to win hit out to advantage like Soldo could - well then you are basically just trying to make a contest. They will try Pickett again when Jackson goes in there and hope we can get an advantage once the ball is on the ground.

I cant see the merit in a ruckman sub.

be inspired if Nank or tom went down, but not the other 20 blokes.

thats an unnecessary 10-1 punt IMHO.

I think sub has to be versatile, kind of by definition.

they are way too good for the role, but M.Pickett, N.Balta and N.Broad are the ultimate subs I reckon

be great if we can get good enough to do it in finals

Interesting in the HS today.
Demons wall to wall and still comparing Petracca to Dusty.
What a joke. As I said in an earlier post, that is like trying to compare a flathead to a shark.
For mine, would rather have Bontempelli in my team than Petracca any day.
What has Petracca ever done to win all this praise?
Has he ever won any awards, Brownlow, paper awards or anything for that matter?
All of that in the HS today, except for the usual full pages on the Magpies, they just won't go away, win or lose.

If we didn't have a Dusty, I wouldn't mind having a Peetracca. Seeing as we already have a Dusty then we don't really have much need for a Peetracca.

It's taken the Peetracca a few years to sort himself out n get his head around the professional elite footballer requirements, but it looks like he's finally arrived at where he needs his game to be. Still got a hell of a long way to go before he should be mentioned in the same breath as the Dusty one though.
Dusty's achieved all the important big time in his career, Peetracca is still searching for the big time.

Thats the quality of the HS journalism for ya.
Comparing Petracca (no achievements) to a three time Premiership player and Norm Smith medallist.
Wake me up when its September!

They did a preview of the round on Fox earlier. Can someone confirm that we are playing Melbourne? Their preview made it seem as if Melbourne had no opponent tonight.
