Changes for Port

Been discussing this on the vfl thread.

To me it is quite simple. If we are conservative we will be pick Ryan to play with Lynch out and if we are aggressive we will pick Fawcett probably or another of the young forwards.

What we do is going to be a great indicator for our 2025 mindset as a club.

The only way McAuliffe plays imo is as the sub if the club thinks it is better for Sonsie to play a vfl game than be sub two weeks in a row.

Sonz is fading and losing time. Get Kano in.

Thought Sonsie didn’t go hard enough at two marking opportunities

I had a good feeling about the Carlton game, and I have a good feeling about this one.

Port looked so uninspiring. That forward line of theirs is thin. You're relying on big games from Georgiades and Rioli to kick a winning score.

If McIntosh goes to Rozee, a lot of their midfield drive is neutered. On the flipside, there's no natural opponent for Drew to take.

Like Carlton, I reckon Port are a bit soft between the ears right now. The Hinkley / Carr handover is a little messy.

They'll likely breathe fire for the first quarter and a bit.

Maybe they'll even get out to a ... I don't know ... 41 point-or-so lead.

But I can see them going wobbly at the knees if we're in the game at three-quarter time.

Port will need every advantage their home deck offers to see us off, I reckon.

Agree - we have had some good victories against the portless and we have tended to match up well against them in the past.

It will be great for a young squad to bond together on their first H&A road trip - again we will be rank outsiders, no one will expect us to win so will watch with interest - another free hit I reckon.

Can't see Sims getting a guernsey for Lynch if he's suspended. Faull (limited to about 40 mins on field), Fawcett and Ryan were all better and more impactful than Sims. Even Mate and snackpack were better.

If Aliir starts intercepting I can see them getting Bauer to play the same role he did against Weitering. Did it well actually which makes me think he might be a better backman than forward.
I can see us going conservative and giving Ryan the spot but he was so uninspiring in the VFL that it would be the wrong call. Port will stroll out their backline with Ryan. Faull would be ideal but not enough run in the legs yet. Has to be Fawcett because he atleast will provide a contest

Please no to Delilah we cant tank after 1 win
Fawcett after 3 goals in the VFL deserves his chance in the forward line if Lynch is out

Thought he was pretty good when he came on. Didn’t do anything to justify getting dropped.
He certainly wasn't bad and did a couple of smart plays but equally, probably not enough to hold his place if we want to upgrade our mids in speed so McA could replace him. That said, it would do Sonz good to get a bit of continuation

Does anyone know if the there a South Australian Richmond supporters function this week before the game. Heading over for the game. Thanks.

Bauer went to Weitering after half time and stopped his dominance. Fawcett or Sims for Lynch.
Yeah this - play small ball, dont play the long ball down the line with Alir able to launch. If we spread like we did in the second half of Carlton with the same speed off turnover, it'll force Alir to play 1on1 and not get easily set up.
Forward handballs were our source of success in 2017-2020. Be interesting to see how it goes this year with arguably better talent coming in and developing in Lalor, Sims, Trainor, Hotton and Armstrong up forward running amok.

Not that I agree with it, now with Lynch out I reckon the selection committee will go with Ryan as his replacement.

I think so too. Can't have KMac rucking, and Nanks isn't the spring chicken anymore to spend high game-time rucking. Will be interesting to see what the Tigers go with.

So why keep him on the list at all if we just rule a line through him at Rd 1, a game where he did very little wrong?
He's on the list. He appeared to work hard over pre-season. Sonsie gets the spot until he either screws his chance, or someone jumps past him and he needs a full match for his own sake.
