Changes for Port

I wonder if there could be a late change, we look too tall for their selected side. I think we can use that forward of centre, we might be an extra tall defender (Blight).

Back 7 of Miller, Broad, Vlastuin, Brown, Short, Smith and Trainor

Bring McAuliffe in as the extra mid rotation

He had no impact and is not fit enough. Not everyone cramped up. Football is not about running all day. You need to get the pill.
Yep . Should’ve been dropped. Sonsie very stiff as I thought he did more in less time.
Steely had five clangers in a seven possession game, no crumbs , no goal assists, one score involvement, no hard ball gets and I could go on with about 20 other stats. His game was rated as having a negative impact to the team which is very rare. In a way we get to see him again and the MC are obviously wanting to see if he can improve and not shatter his confidence. His low base set obviously improvement will come , but how much I’m not sure. 🤔
Sonsie was massively hard done by as he did little wrong and I hope he kills it in the VFL. His contract ends this year and with all our kids he needs to be best 22 and not a fringe player.

Re Sonsie, my guess it was about balance with Smith offering more run

The line up last week looked like too many midfielders particularly with Macintosh playing in the middle

FWIW (my take)

- Lynch gets to rest a week and continue his path to 100% wellness (and subsequent impact on our team construct and game plan)
- Sonsie orders are not stamped. He'll get a full game in the VFL and demonstrate lessons learned (show that he's still/capable of improvement)
- Fawcett a good IN on various levels (shows the Match Committee rewards effort (meritocracy!)
- Steel needs to improve/impact more this week
- all players will/should have benefited from the 8 day break (good recovery)
- hopefully no additional injuries
- continue to show game plan and effort
- would be great to win - but the KPI is continued improvement and execution
- only a blowout will dim the Round One sparkle

Hopefully we can ruin Boak's big day just like we did Karen's and he'll go on to sook about us for years in his post-footy media career.

Ok, u have changed your tune.

In your post that I reply/commented on, u said we couldn’t play a second ruck. And suggested we just use Kmac or even Hopper as a second ruck.

Most on here suggesting we play a key position player who can chop out in ruck. But u think KMac or Hopper. I will leave it at that.
I haven't changed my tune at all.

I said we don't need to play a recognised second ruck. I said I'm happy to ruck Kmac or literally anyone and play them as a 4th mid. I stand by it.

We did it in round 1. It seems we're doing it in round 2.

I'm not sure what you're upset about.

I know most will disagree but Koschitzke for Lynch makes sense. As much as i want us to play the kids we still need maturity in each area.
Koschitzke is at least a mature body with 62 games behind him who can take the hits instead of a kid on debut and another in just his second game. Lets also not kid ourselves neither are physically ready and have a long way to go in that area.
Then we have Bauer also playing who is undersized for a kp role and while showing some nice glimpses mostly is not involved anywhere near enough.
To survive i think he needs to massively improve his ground game.

Personally i would be looking at four ins and all fit a purpose. Kossie for reasons above, McAuliffe who simply put is the most likely young mid we have not in the team who is not injured. We need to prioritise some of the younger blokes he is one of them. I simply find it hard to believe that we are picking players like Dow, Sonsie and McIntosh in front of this player.

Smith well everyone here talks about the need for a Rioli type or at least someone with similar attributes for the role. Here we have a kid bang the door down for a role we desperately need to fix and what do we do? oh thats right we make him sub again.

Last but not least i would be playing Algar in one of the small forward roles. So far the ones we have been playing the last few years have been utterly underwhelming. Our smalls in general are not getting the ball not kicking enough goals and go missing for too long in games. one or two run around like headless chooks and are applauded for it. We need more than players who can just run and apply pressure.

The outs well to accomodate the needed changes then some hard decisions have to be made.

Kossie for Lynch, Smith for maybe Brown or god forbid Short. Algar for Green and McAuliffe for McIntosh.

Thankfully you are not part of the match committee. In one breath you are saying Kosi should play because we need mature bodies and in the next you have Macintosh being omitted. You didn’t watch last weeks game?

Pretty bloody obvious we need a mature kpf to play. The option is to throw a first gamer and a second gamer to the wolves.
You can make the distinction between the need for mature talls and mature mids or can you?

Its pretty darn obvious that we have mature mids in the team and not playing McIntosh is not a problem. Oh and yes i did watch last weeks game the same one where Cripps single handedly got Carlton out to a 41 point lead i wonder whos opponent that was.

Taranto Hopper and Ross all say hello and every day of the week given we are in such a development stage id be picking McAuliffe over old flappers every time and when Prestia is back there is even less need for game stealers like flappers. Already McIntosh is taking games off young mids.

Can't wait till the likes of Smillie and Hotton well and truly have him where he belongs back in the magoos.

Apologies if that sort of thinking is a bit too convoluted for your simplistic view on it.

also, whats this about our small fowards? Mansell and Campbell were excellent last week. in no way have they been 'utterly underwhelming'

...Alger out for Greene maybe but I wouldn't consider that an urgency whatsoever... give Greene some time to find the right synergy with the other two and give Alger some more time to adjust to playing against bigger bodies in the VFL, he is the youngest player on our list after all.

we struck the balance between youth and experience perfectly last week, that's why we won... you don't want to upset the apple cart by playing too many kids all at once. common sense.

I have to question Blights selection with a reported adductor injury. He looks set to be a permanent fixture if he can get himself right and avoid aggravation?

That's a whole lotta words to bag McIntosh for no reason.

Lucky the match committee has a bit more sense.

That would be a concern too, he doesn't have a clear match up, coming off being subbed through injury and there will be plenty of matches in the coming weeks where we have the need for a 2nd tall defender. Tomorrow isn't 1 of them, so agree between the injury and the lack of talls in Ports forward line, it seems strange to pick him. You'd think between Miller, Trainor and Broad they could mean up Georgiadis and Lukosius
