I am not one for change. Many people that know me say I am stuck in the past.
But if it is seen that we need change, then do it properly.

CHANGE 1-

Over time it has been seen by the AFL that there is a need to increase the number of umpires adjudicating an AFL game. Currently we have 3 field umpires, 2 bounday umpires, 2 goal umpires, and an emergency field umpire. There are plans now to add another central umpire.

We already have players being fined and penalised for coming into contact with the umpires. Surely by adding a further umpire on the fireld is not going to alleviate this.

So, lets not remove an umpire from the central field of play.

Let's consider having two field umpires, four boundary umpires and two goal umpires.

The bounday umpires would run a quarter of the ground each. They would also be able to adjudicate on game, rather than just deciding whether the leather has crossed a line or not.

How many times do you see the field umpire get into position in the vicinity of the bounday umpire to make a decision, when the boundary umpire could just as well have made the same decision?

How often do fans call out that the boundary umpire hasn't kept up with the play, and has missed seeing the ball cross the line?

Having the extra boundary umpires will allow them to keep up with the play better, and reducing one from the middle will reduce the traffic jams that occur.

CHANGE 2-

Bring back State of Origin Football. We are often told how precious our footballers are and require a mid year break, while supporters miss out on their dose of football that split round weekend when their team doesn't play.

Why not have the State of Origin games played on the Queens Birthday Weekend? Approximately 670 players are listed in the AFL. With only about 88 players required for State of Origin duties, that leaves 584 players "recuperating". If those players that are selected deem themselves unavailable due to injury they should be subjected to AFL testing, and if they are found to be malingering, then they are suspended for the next AFL match.

Victoria plays South Australia each Queens Birthday Monday, each year alternating the home venue.

Western Australia can play the Allies at a time selected by either the AFL or the TV Stations. This game could be played at Subiaco each alternate year. The Allies could rotate their home games between the States and Territories that make up The Allies.

CHANGE 3-

Scrap the Pre-season Fixture and extend the season so that all teams play each other twice.

CHANGE 4-

Home games mean home games. If Richmond host Fremantle at the MCG, then the home side should make it as unfriendly as possible, rather than the generic sterile venues we play in today. Richmond have a run-through banner, Fremantle do not. At the end of the game, and Fremantle win, no club song is played. Visiting Cheer Squads can still take floggers and flags and gather in one location.

CHANGE 5-

Scrap the Ground Announcers and music played at breaks in the game. Are we morons that don't know the Richmond Team is entering the ground? Are we unable to find out the score for ourselves?
Mr. Announcer get a gig on Community Radio, but please leave us in peace.
