Changes vs Freo [Merged]

what exactly has McGuane done at coburg anyway?

disagree with lambs aswell, him and Moore in the same side is a waste because they are very similar

Piffle poffle - one is the next great half back of our generation with rugged good looks and the other one is Mcguane.

One is fast agile and athletic and the other one is Mcguane.

One is sublimely skilled by foot and one (Mcguane if you didn't know) has trouble finding the ball with his foot.

One of them also has calves.

All the best to Luke on Sunday ;D

Not sure if this has already been mentioned but if we lose 3 players between now and gameday will we start 1 player short?
Bowdo is an Emergency but did not make the trip!
Don't know why they selected him in the side when they were always going to drop him and not just list him as an Out from the start ???

Kudos to Wallace sticking to his guns despite the knives that our supporter base are drilling into his back.

Protect the kids - they're not ready yet - and patience is a virtue.

I would expect, and hope that Hyde and Tivva rotate throughout the year. They're older and stronger and can take the rigours of AFL much better than our kids. By rotating, they get an extra week to recover and can come in spritely with no regard for any lingering injury niggles. They can protect our kids. And you know, might even attract the attention of a higher class tagger.

Tambling appears to be progressing - this is good yeah? He's not there yet - but he's progressing. Deserves his spot so long as this continues.

Moore has matured and is now a regular in our side. I think all must agree that his performace thus far has warranted his selection. This is good yeah?

Jay Shultz - the great white whale of Richmond is finally settling in a role and starting to show some potential. Along with Thursfield and King we are starting to see a backline start to gel. If I'm not mistaken - one of our greatest deficiencies in recent times. And you know - its got a little grunt in too.

Deano and Hughes injured - not playing - will people shut up about them not being included now?!

Cotchin still recovering and not ready - we CAN'T play him till he's ready. Yet people still include him in the "why don't we just play x kid here and y kid there" posts. Are there other's who are carrying niggles we don't know about? There's rumours of Delidio carrying something ... we don't know *smile*. Positions, I'm sure, are based on many things.

White may consider himself unlucky in losing his spot this week - but maybe having short spells is a good thing. It feeds the hunger - and he can work his ass of in Coburg with what he learnt that game. Show the coach he valued his small shot - he got something out of it, and he wants more. We have no idea what's been said behind closed doors. You all speak of culture change - surely this is something we haven't been doing in recent times. I've heard it said that experienced players shouldn't just get a spot on name only - well kids shouldn't be gifted spots because they're kids either. Thats just breeding a second generation of players that are gifted spots based on something other than skill.

Didn't we want Wallace to play more kids?

Yet when he does they're not the kids YOU wanted.

or

They're not ALL kids that are going to get smacked up, down and sideways.

FFS.

Bowden axed for a week - maybe two - who knows. Seems to be a constant target of this board, and now he's dropped people still whinge. He may be creative (and hell, he's great in virtual footy sides!), but he's often unaccountable, and I don't believe he's acting as the leader I would expect him to be at this stage. There's a reason he's never been captain.

Let me get one thing straight though - I'm not bagging the guy out - I do respect him - and he's been a favorite of mine for a long while now, but I do also support this statement that's been made. Clearly he's not the worst in recent weeks, but this does put others on notice as well.

Didn't we want Wallace to get tougher?

And when he does its "scapegoatism"

FFS.

The needs of the club as a whole out-weigh the needs of the individual - suck it up Joel. I hope you can move past it and make a statement yourself in a few weeks.

As for the supposed "obsurdity" of naming Joel then dropping him - it has prevented a weeks worth of media sniping at the club (and in particular - intense media on Joel himself). The club, and possibly Joel will cop it for two days now, but then it will be lessened after the Freo game - win/lose or draw. Feels more like "protection" than "lamb slaughtering".

As a supporter, what I would like to see is a supporter base praising the good in ALL our players. We aren't perfect, and never will be. Our administration will make mistakes as EVERY club does. But we can ENCOURAGE. We can SUPPORT. We can provide positive feedback as well as positive criticism. I look at Carlton - running headlong into 15 losses in a row with a clearly inept coach - and yet the supporters I know are generally positive. They cheer - they talk up their new guns - they wait and watch with baited breath just waiting for the spark they know is waiting to light up, and they're supporting their club with gusto.

Our supporter base tears itself appart at every opportunity. We're 1-2 and ready to walk into round 4 with many a positive to focus on. And yet here we are - 30+ pages of gibber jabber - most of it dribble based on speculation and innuendo.

Last years runners up are 0-3.
Sydney started 1-3 in '06 to make the GF

I could go on, and on. But for the love of God - or at least the club - just let the season unfold.

I'm not suggesting we're premiership material.

Just watch and wait.

Then assess.

See what pans out.

<apologies for the long post ...>

Bit fiesty there CC. You were bagging Bowden and condoning his demotion elsewhere.
I probaly didnt put it clearly JB ,I was not bagging Joel at all,I can just understand TWs idea of moving him up the ground an think Joel should be one of the last to go

Welcome TAP, apparently what was said behind closed doors was exactly what everyone heard on radio and read in the papers, Whitey was a given a rap up directly from TW. His game was far from perfect but he wasn't Robinson Crusoe either. It was his endeavor that was spoken highly of.

The crux of the problem this year appears to be TW's spin , says one thing and does another, game day match ups (and while none of us are sitting in the coaching box, we all love the Tigers and watch what happens on game day probably with more passion than others) many match ups over the last three weeks have been puzzling and the commentators agree.

All the hoo-ha over Joel Bowden, as it appears he may not have been playing even if the game was here. His wife is about to give birth and he want's to be around for that, and I don't blame him for one second. But why all the bulltish about getting tough, dropping the players who don't want to play for the Y & B, all that sort of tripe.

Honestly, I would love Terry to just come out and tell it how it really is. If some of the kids we all want to play aren't in his plans be upfront for chris sakes. Cut the spin Terry and be the breath of fresh air you were supposed to be when you came to our once great club.

RFC the natives are getting restless, lets have an open, honest assessment by everyone and not wait for another 18 months. The time to act is slipping away.

Go Tiges!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The problem with the match ups argument is that White could seemingly be in Hyde's role and do it better. If we're making a transition now surely White should be preferred to Hyde.

Lmao.Tell me the last Coach or club to come out and publically say they dont want player X just to satisfy the minds of its supporters

Good to get an alternative view from TAP. It's easy to get wound up in the panic here and many think that Wallace is making massive mistakes. Regardless, the likelihood is he'll remain coach till the end of this year and probably till the end of his contract, so to get a positive view of his decisions makes me feel better!

I was disappointed in White being dropped but logic tells me you don't talk a kid up in the press then drop them without a closed door conversation and explanation that will keep him positive. I disagree with those who think Wallace doesn't like White, I remember him putting massive wraps on him in 2006, I think Whitey will get more games this year.

Anyway, i've been talking the tigers up as a sure thing to anyone who'll listen... i'm still on us, I reckon we have a great show tomorrow. Can't wait to go to work on Monday and stick it up all those who tipped Fremantle in the knock-out competition!

All people want is for a sign of some sort of improvement onfield. Not the substandard football we've been watching. It's time that TW just shut the hell up and started acting like a coach and not Paris Hilton sticking her head in the media talking dribble. People are getting upset because all we hear is crap and then we turn up to games and all we see is crap. It's patronising and despite evidence to the contrary we're not all idiots.

What an absolute disgrace!!!!!!!!!! This club has lost me and Wallace and Miller can both *smile* off right now!!! Can anyone give me a proper explanation as to what Hyde can do that White couldn't??? We are looking at youth aren't we?? Has Hyde suddenly become Nathan Buckley after another week in the ressies?? Who is making these bloody decisions??

Enjoy the 15 goal drubbing we will receive tomorrow, and i hope they don't even bother coming back!!

Well

I am bit miffed that Polo has missed barring injury and the process seems a bit confused (poor old young whitey) , but the tribe sure is getting restless.

I would have thought Bowden Pettifer Tivendale out and Lukey Edwards and JR in would have made even Claw and Craigy happy.

Times have certainly changed
three youngens for 3 long term underachieving squibs is fine by me. but to drop a kid after 1 game with limited game time to bring in another long term hack is beyond me.typical of wallace and this footy dept there seems to be no plan get one thing right and undo the good work with stupidity.

we all prattle on about development well this is not the way to develop. its a disgrace to drop white in such circumstances. the way they went about dropping bowden was a disgrace though warranted.

we are wooden spooners theres only one way out of the mire and that way is being ignored.
play as many kids as possible what have we got to lose. we are losing games by sizeable margins already.

if the club was to axe pettifer morton mcmahon bowden polak tivendale newman and brown and replaced them with big bodied types who chase and tackle well who are capable of playing accountable footy who play with desperation and kick well the teams performance would improve over night.

how many unaccountable non tacklers lazy outside squibs can a team carry.

I agree with all that but I think you are a bit harsh on newman

ah stats i hate em but i suggest you have a look see at newmans tackle count. hes also very loose especially for a defender.

Good positive points in your post Take a Punt
Negativity never accomplished anything and the postives re some of our kids and 3-4 yr players are refreshing .

However, the deficiencies in our list are still glaring esp. lack of big bodied KPPs and Rucks. We seem to have a glut of 190 cm tall midfielders and esp. KPP defenders who are not the answer long term against the "gorillas". I am big fan of Thursfield and getting to like Moore more and more. Although Thursty has terrific defensive skills and good agility etc. his match ups may still be criticial on game day. I still cannot believe they refused to play him each time on Riewoldt last year after a very good effort in 2006.

Claw's summation of where we sit (last of course!) in regards to the no. of big (196 cm plus) KPP players etc in another thread was very pertinent. It's also not just height but overall size and strength that is all too obviously lacking. We just have to keep trying the taller kids and especially give the only young KPPs we have (esp. Hughes and Riewoldt) a decent run in the seniors as there is no point in playing them for one or two games and letting them languish at Coburg even though they are not setting the world on fire just yet; but they both have some upside and surely have some ability. Hopefully Cleve can develop consistency especially re efforts to win the hard ball, and Jack can start getting to more contests and improve aerobic capacity(?) Jack does look like he has a footy brain and does contest well but he just doesn't appear the size required for a KPP. (Then again Hart was only 6'11/2") It really is probably still early days for Jack and perhaps for Cleve as well. Both Cleve and JR won't benefit from lengthy stays at Coburg - time to give both a decent opportunity to show what they can do. It's not that we are vying for a spot in the 8. If they are found wanting by year's end then chalk it up another two wasted picks (don't think that will be the case for both of them surely(???). I still think they may still be capable of being good long term AFL players if they can bulk up and get some real physicality into their games (esp Cleve). Good to see Shulz getting regular game time in defence. Not sure where he is best suited but he and Richo on the fwd line just doesn't seem to work (head clashes, cracked ribs etc).

Pattison may not be a giant for a ruck but he has a fair dinkum dip and appears to be slowly coming into his own. Still don't know if his best position is in the ruck (maybe a better role might be that similar to Barnes (essendon) as a tall ruck rover as he seems to have pretty good engine?) Memo Terry - please get Graham in at some stage this year to find out if he has improved and worth perservering with (I hope so!). And Putt, I really am banking on him developing over the next 2-3 years.
Really hope they keep Connors in the 22 for the rest of the year - he does look the goods who won't take a backward step (another later draft pick that looks ATM to eventually outshine some of the other recent higher draft picks who don't look like getting a game at this stage. Can't believe White has been dropped. He needs more game time - he doesn't appear to endear himself to the selection commitee for whatever reason. At least he applies some defensive pressure on the FWD line.

While I think Tivva was ordinary he was not on his pat malone and it was bemusing to see the Tivva-Hyde turnstile revolving again. All in all many other changes should have been made and the hard calls will need to be made eventaully if the same pattern continues. Interesting Rance is an emergency in the Coburg team(?) and Cotchin begins his journey via Coburg into the senior team this weekend. Waiting patiently for both of them although probably can't expect too much from either this year.

Need to start promoting kids at all costs now - one step we can take in the right direction. Bringing in more players into the midfield with grunt and passion for the contest and ability (or the want) to apply defensive pressure and prearedness to man-up would also be a good start.

Things just have to turn around one day - don' t they?

Go Tiges

All the talk about depth and pressure on the seniors was just that, TALK.
Didn't see Gus or Cogs or Cotch at Coburg, maybe they played in the magoos.
The seniors lost by a point, killed by a goal kicked after the siren. They started with a six goal to zip burst and were slowly pegged back.
Connors didn't do enough to get a senior run, also needs to attack the protien shakes and weights room.
Steamee leads in a straight line and marks o.k. kicked a few again, managed a couple of second efforts but has the turning circle of a *smile* truck.
Jarrod, Aaarggh! Moves well reads the play well looks balanced and precise, kicks neatly, unfortunately many of his kicks seem to be centimetre perfect to where the teammate is waiting instead of to advantage space. Means the player has to stand and wait for the kick to come in and allows opponents to come over the top.
The kid struggles to take an option of any sort when he is under the pump or tries to hard to find the perfect option instead of the instinctive first option.
Looks like he is trying to play to an instruction book instead of playing with a natural instinctive flow.
Rance looks like he has put in plenty of work, may get a look late in the season but there's no rush. Just let him play footy and enjoy learning the requirements for senior footy.
Bowdo, Chooka n Tiv did the laps and will play more senior footy than at Coburg.
Collins another skinny medium size. Got some neat skills, needs the protien shakes.

Good post Burgin 27 Strang 28

What a backline we had when those two manned up on the half back line! Fantastic memeories of the glory days.
