PUNT ROAD END | Richmond Tigers Forum

Just got in after a long walk home from the game. I've been through it all in my mind a 100 times and I don't really have any answers. But maybe a few thoughts. :spin

As we all seem to recognise the present squad is sadly lacking in skill and foot speed. The importance of both of these skills has increased ten fold since the changes in the kick in rule were introduced in 07 and the move to increased midfield rotations is just part of the result of this rule change, with our great game beginning to look more and more like soccer.

It is clear that we have not prepared well for these changes. In 06 we recruited Oaklie-Nicholls who has the speed but doesn't have the game and in 07 Reiwoldt, who has the game but is far too slow. In 07 we also gave up the possibility of taking players like Joel Selwood and David Armitage to get a player from Freemantle who can't kick.

I think Greg and Terry must accept responsibility for these errors. I for one was so pleased to be rid of Frawley and Beck, that I would have been happy with Tom and Jerry. The facts are that under the stewardship of these two we probably have gone backwards in our list management.

At seasons end we will again be near the bottom. Based on what I have seen over the past three weeks we should let Bowden, Brown, Pettifer and Polak go for what we can get for them. Johnson and Tivendale should be invited to retire and depending on the rest of the year Hyde and Jackson and quite possibly others should be delisted.

Just for Evo my team against Freemantle,

B Moore Thursefield Polo*
HB Deledio Mcguane* King
C Tambling Tuck Johnson
HF Newman Schulz Hughes*
F Edwards* Richardson Moreton
R Simmonds Mcmahon Foley
Res Oaklie-Nicholls, White, Pattison & Reiwoldt*

In Edwards, Hughes, Mcguane, Oaklie-Nicholls, Polo & Reiwoldt.
Out Bowden, Brown, Jackson, Pettifer, Polak & Tivendale.
(Oaklie-Nicholls gets the nod for Subiaco where perhaps his speed can be a factor and because I know that Bowden's can't be).

Just one add on. Newman is one of the worst defenders I have ever seen. How can he possibly expect to have any impression on the game when he mans up on Didak one meter behind him? Hate to sound like a broken record but again he was lost to day in a defensive role.
