Changes Vs Hawthorn

From watching the Hawks last weekend I do no think it matters who comes in or goes out, we would have to be underdogs in a big way for this game. They were awesome with their spread, run and carry gameplan as opposed to our 1970's bomb it long and hope for the best plan. Would love to be wrong, but current form says we are not in the hunt to win this. Maybe next year we will have the players after the draft and trades to implement a spread run and carry game which is the way the modern game is played.

Yeah, assuming the outs are : Petterd, Ty and Arnott then the ins should be Stephenson, Astbury and McDonough.

I very much agree

Will need fresh legs. Hawks coming off 8 day break vs our 6 day break. Being referred to by Hawks players in their weekly footy interviews. They will run and use their strong foot skills for fast ball movement. We are going to need to be very strong at the contest ALL DAY and then run like the clappers when the ball gets outside.

Hmmm...

Franklin, Roughead, Hale and Gunston.

4 x talls who play fwd for the Hawks.

Thinking maybe both Astbury and Batchelor come in this week.

We're really not oing to get within cooeee of Hawthorn this week. They're hitting peak form with pretty much a full list to choose from and a 2 day extra breakwhilst we've been hit by a number of injuries with very little to take their place. I like to stay confident but next game is going to be about damage control I feel.

Need to protect %% this week. Its tight with us, Carlton, Collingwood and Port. I reckon % could determine whose in and whose out come the end of the H&A rounds.

In the Coburg Report it says that McDonough had 15 clearances and 20 contested possessions :o :o
Not bad for a supposed small forward who takes his turn in the middle.

Need some new blood this week, a couple of first gamers to get some excitement in the group - god, the Pies, Geelong, Hawthorn, Swans have all brought new players in to great effect this year (they might have the depth to do that, but it's also giving confidence to a young bloke that they're ready to enter the senior team in important games - we saw what it meant to Matt Arnot to get his first game).

Aside from the experienced rookies (Petterd, Stepheson, Lonergan) /players (Edwards) that were brought in, we have only played Vlastuin as a young draftee from last year and Matt Arnot for his first game from the year before. Really think we need to see McDonough or McBean this week - at least one, ideally both.

O'Hanlon 0 games, Helbig 1 game (have had injuries I know), Elton 0 games. I know some are still developing, but the Coburg season hasn't got long to go and we are running out of opportunity to give some these guys a go in the seniors.

As exciting as it is to see new players debut, this week is not the week.
Running patterns, presses and match ups mean that you cannot have a weak link, otherwise you get opened up.

Can't afford to have our midfield chasing tail leaving our defence under pressure.

Out Arnot, Vickery, Pettard (all inj)
In King (or Nahas if King unfit), Batchelor, Stephenson.

Tuck lucky we had the injuries but wil need a big effort this week to stay in the week after.

True

But there will daylight between 8th - collingwood - and 9th - Carlton IMO

If TV is fit, i would consider 'resting' Maric, playing TV as 1st ruck and bringing in Derrickx as 3rd tall fwd/back up ruck. he could be terrible but i reckon worth a try.
if TV misses or plays 1st ruck i would bring in Edwards, McBean or McGuane to replace Arnott, cos we are going to need a 2nd target up forward.
Astbury for Pettard down back.

i would not play O and Maric in the same team. Lake or Gibson would have a field day playing on either of them, and i doubt either would be dangerous up forward.

Maybe McD or King for Tuck.

Reckon we could play Tucky as the third tallish fwd. Takes a good contested mark and kicks ok for goal. Still if TV is out that still leaves one tall to bring in for the fwd line...... Its starting to look a little thin on the depth side of things.
