off topic, but funny the ABC inside people were so focused on issues of letting the artist feel safe, and keeping a manager because they are popular - yet suggesting this precident will see edgy comedy leave the ABC. To what? The commercial networks?

If they are worried about the ABC, wait till they see the commercial world of network approval of all scripts, product placement, cross network promotions, not offending sponsors, and of course the power of ratings (rate or die).

Also thought it was funny someone thought it was a big deal for the Chaser boys to apologise alone. Nothing to do with anyone related to Chaser, but may be a sign of the thinking of some in the ABC.

I know the ABC is a different beast to the commercials, but it shouldn't be a blank cheque to do whatever you want. You have to have some accountability, especially when spending tax payer dollars.

Back to Chaser, one of their people actually did an interview on the Today show, and did a pretty decent job of it. First interview I have seen of any of them where they didn't gripe about being pulled off air, make excuses, or blame people not being aware of the nature of black comedy. If they had said something like this in the first place, things may have played out differently (and I would not have spent a week belting CB over the head :hihi)

I was very critical of the sketch and their post show attitude but the comeback show last night was certainly the best of the new series and a somwhat return to form.

Sounds like you were very critical of the sketch and their post show attitude. but the comeback show last night was certainly the best of the new series, and something of a return to form?

What do you class return to form?

The first 2 (or 3? ) episodes were very ordinary (and that's not taking into account the controversial sketch) this weeks episode was funnier but less edgy.

ABC's The Chaser program is again under fire, this time for what a charity has described as a degrading and offensive skit about guide dogs.

The Chaser aired a skit on Wednesday night centred on an organisation called "Guide Dogs for the Blind and Munted".

It featured guide dogs leading drunken men, one of whom smashes a bottle near a dog in harness.

Guide Dogs Queensland chief executive Chris Laine said her organisation had received a number of complaints from offended clients and had passed them on to ABC management and The Chaser team.

Ms Laine said of particular concern was the episode's title and the "incorrect and debasing suggestion that guide dogs can be used to accommodate irresponsible and drunken behaviour".

"Most alarming for us all was watching the wanton and dangerous smashing of a bottle near the guide dog - which is clearly seen to frighten the dog in harness," Ms Laine said.

"If, as believed, this is an actual working guide dog then it is grossly inappropriate.

"In doing this skit, the Chasers have not only offended and degraded the work and dedication of guide dog schools around the world, but also the courage and commitment shown everyday by the many clients who use a guide dog."

Courtney Gibson, ABC TV executive head of content creation, said in a statement the guide dog used in the skit was "not degraded, nor was there ever any potential for it to be harmed".

"All usual animal safety protocols were adhered to at all times during the filming of the segment and it was shot in a responsible and appropriate manner," Ms Gibson said.

She said the bottle smashed near the dog was a sugar bottle commonly used as a TV prop, with a sound-effect added, and never posed any threat to the dog.

"The Chaser is a comedy program and we don't believe any of our viewers actually imagine guide dogs could, or should, be misused," she said.

"The idea that one could stop drunks texting ex-girlfriends or buying ropey kebabs is clearly a joke."

She said the sketch did not make comment on the work done to train guide dogs or the clients who use them.

The final episode of The Chaser will be aired next week.

The Chaser's War on Everything was taken off the air for two weeks in June after the top rating program's Make A Realistic Wish skit about dying children caused widespread public outrage.

The Age ran an article the other day stating the climbing the Church skit was insensitive because it was just before Rudd was to make a statement on the Jakarta bombings! Please.
