Hi all,
It's been a tough year all round for us all.
I know that you're all fine & loyal Tiger supporters, and sometimes the negative energy needs to be vented.
Sometimes it is easy to merely scapegoat in this situation.
Find a target and vent on that subject.
The other alternative is to seek a magical & mystical messiah.
Sometimes we inadvertantly create instant messiahs only to tear them down just as quickly.
We've all been following footy for a long time, and we know there are no quick fixes.
Some of you may say that the current fix has already been running 3 years.
That's true.
But how many of us, back in 2004, really thought that we'd be back there within 3 years.
The last couple of years have been a tease, but maybe that's all they really were.
I'm not trying to whitewash anyone or anything.
I don't have any quich fix answers or solutions.
What I can say is that we have made much ground, as a club, since 2004.
There have been mistakes on the way.
But given the fact that the club has been trying to make a "silk purse out of a sow's ear" isn't such a poor metaphore.
To me, the only area holding us back is on-field.
Three years ago that was just one aspect of many things going wrong.
It seems to be the only problem now.
That's a plus! :-\
Again, for those who forget, there was little or no money going into the footy department in 2004 & 2005.
2003, 2002 also for that matter.
All of it went into reconstructing a decimated coaching department.
Then, we didn't have a junior development section.
We didn't have a recruiting department. I only saw Greg rock up with a few mates he'd roped in for free.
Things are getting better.
The recruiting department is getting much better info to work with now.
It made good decisions in 2006 off a low base.
And the recruiting structure & resultant info is even better this year.
A measure of character is how strong one can bear the tough times.
Let's face it, the last couple of years were better than expected.
Yes, this has been a tough year.
So I'm going to shake myself up, get tough on myself and not go into some whimsical depression.
I'm certainly going to be watchful during the trade/draft period.
I'm prepared to take the medicine, as will a few of the boys on the list.
To me,
Toughen up.
Onward & upward!
