Choose a player - What can they improve?

i would like to see brett deledio takes more shots on goal when running from outside 50. he always seems to be looking to dish off or hit the hot spot. go for goal lids. finish. i would also like to see deledio with a better conversion rate from set shots inside 50. he seems to miss a lot for a skillful user of the ball

Kane Johnson needs to work on his kicking, when he came to the club he was a good kick last year he was awful.

After his B&F effort perhaps it could be summarised as improved delivery.

I think Kane's effort's as a tagger and leader this year were fantastic.
If he could improve anything it would be to try and hurt oppositions more offensively.

Gaspar. To look like it bothers him when someone kicks a goal on him.I'm sure it hurts him, but the impression he gives doesn't look good.

It looks like he is bothered about something all the time.
He needs to enjoy playing football otherwise he should give it away.
Just smile or at least look happy when something goes okay.

1. Newman – Aggression at contests and winning the contested ball.
2. Gaspar - Kicking
3. Deledio - Tends to rush at times and kick over team-mates heads. Just needs to learn to judge a little bit better when to burst and when to compose.
4. Raines - Similar to Lids, seems to go flat out too much and can get caught with the ball at times.
5. Simmons - Needs to tap to team-mates a bit more effectively and can/should be more physically imposing in crashing for pack marks.
6. Polak - closing speed
7. Brown - hardness at contested ball
8. Riewoldt - no comment
10. Edwards - no comment
11. Bowden - needs a bit more urgency at times
12. Richo - kicking accuracy for goals, also needs to compose himself more
13. Knobel - kicking, positioning, reading of flight of the ball. For someone of his build he just needs to read the flight, stand his ground and mark the ball.
14. Polo - kicking depth and strength in the lower body to withstand tackles
15. Pettifer - decision making when under pressure. Very good after a mark, but could improve in open play.
16. Bowden - more physical aggression at marking contests
17. Johnson - needs to show more composure as he rushes many of his disposals with an over the shoulder type blind kick.
18. Kingsley - aggression at contests
20. Hall - decision making as he tends to get lost when in possession
21. Tuck - pace and composure as is similar to Johnson in that he bombs blindly a lot.
22. Meyer - Reading of play as he seems to not be where the action is often
23. Jackson - awareness and vision. Seems to be lost and lacks the footy instinct
24. Coughlan - pace and kicking. IMO is a poor kick and quite slow.
25. Schulz - Reading of the play and assertion of presence. Goes missing a lot and doesn't demand the ball
26. Pattison - Kicking and footy awareness.
27. Krakouer - pace and endurance
28. Peterson - no comment
29. JON - physical build
30. Tambling - composure - he tends to rush everything, even when free he seems under pressure, needs to learn how to slow down and assess. Also reading of play and positioning as he seems lost quite often
31. Hyde - pace and physical strength
32. Tivendale - physical strength (quite weak in tackles), and decision making
33. Hartigan – tries to do too much with the ball, when at times less is more.
34. Hughes – no comment
35. White – strength and size
36. Thursfield – not seen him enough to comment
37. Casserly – no comment
38. McGuane – physical build and kicking
39. Connors – no comment
40. Moore – physical aggression at contests
41. Foley – depth of kicking and strength
42. Collins – no comment
43. Howat – strength and aggression at contests
44. Graham – no comment
45. Clingan – no comment
46. King – no comment

Not everyone is demonstrative and out there.
This year he was criticised on this board because he smiled when being interviewed about an injury he'd sustained.

Good comments but there are some that are debatable. As far as Richo goes, I don't think composure should extend to kicking at goal. I reckon Richo kicks a higher % of his goals when he arcs around onto the right and goes bang! He clearly has a case of the Baker Finches when he lines up for goal. too much advice perhaps.

Also with Johnson I think his decision making with disposals was quite good in 06. He can be a very creative player. He needs to be due to his lack of pace.

As for a lot of the comments on Lids, Raines, Polo etc. I really think we need to give them time to develop. For instance some of Lids' passes to the forward line are outstanding. Still young and if that is the worst of his deficiencies then we are absolutely laughing.
