Chris Newman - Needs a big 2005

Re: Chris Newman (Merged)

Why is he playing forward? Not a forward *smile* and we wonder why we have the worst forward line in the league and can't crumb goals when our small/mid sized fwds are S Edwards, Newman and Arnot.

You're doing a great job Hardwick.

Ha, I called this move the other day on the Arnott thread and what happens? So predictable Dimma....
I said the same thing, but I wasn't serious. I nearly threw something at the TV when I saw him actually do it. Will Newman even make 250 if he plays for every game the rest of this season? I thought we weren't 'gifting' games, apparently that only applies to anyone whose name isn't Chris Newman.

Re: Chris Newman (Merged)

I love Newy, great bloke and clubman who was there when we needed a steady hand in tough times. But he's had a loser mentality beaten into him over 14 years.

When this beautiful kick of a football ran to 50 under little pressure yesterday, most Tiger fans and I suspect Chris himself, knew he would miss.

Re: Chris Newman (Merged)

Seriously why is still getting a game? It's not because I don't like him.
But he won't be around when we next make the finals in 2023

Unquestionably, Scoop. Donuts BOG in the twos. Never really deserved to be dropped. Bring him in or watch him walk out.

The rate of development that Donuts can get in the 2's is now, very limited. Will improve much quicker at AFL level. Needs to be exposed to the level. And your right Spooky, didn't deserve to go out in the first place. Another case of Dimma, stagnating long term development and being afraid to make the hard call.

I would love to play poker with Dimma. He would pay off your trips with two pair every time.

So much benefit, in terms of long term development and immediate aupporter goodwill, in playing young talented blokes, and he can't see past next week. Has all the vision of a mole, and like a mole just digs deeper when in trouble.

you missed a great day at the Banga pub yesterday spook. The game had nothing. but an old tiger had the top weight running in the 7th at Gold Coast. He declared it. I plonked it (12's fixed).

and then we drank martinis and ignored texts from our wives.

It never even occurred to us to belt out a drunken rendition of tigerland but

I could do with a week or three in the Bay. Bit cold this time of year though, Port Douglas could be more the go.

Sat home yesterday and cheered home a couple of winners at Rosehill and Newcastle, but nothing at those odds.

Hardwick will drop one or both of the new inclusions from yesterday, he very cleverly ensured that neither of them would be able to impress by making one the sub and subbing the other one in for him.

good pick up. he's ensured that none of his "boys" are in danger and positioned arnot and o'hanlon perfectly to make way. Hardwick is using the younger players merely as insurance for when his "boys" either get injured or suspended. doesn't give a stuff about developing them. once his "boys" are ready they're straight back in. clear favouritism happening which is impacting on the overall development of the list.

If anything Newman should be the sub a la Giansiracusa at the doggies. Young players get absolutely nothing out if being the sub imo. Play them in a full game or not at all.

Brendan McCartney said exactly the same thing just last week.

Mentioned Sub role is the single worst thing you can do to develop a lists young footballers. Gives them nothing to gain from the weekend and only confidence to lose.

You're spot on St K, but the only way Newman will ever play as the sub is if he takes an injury into the game. We desperately need his experience, leadership, run and versatility. Probably would have dropped both the Saints and the Brisbane game if Newie hadn't been out there.

... which some would consider to have been a good thing.

Did he really? Rather ironic given that he used probably his best kid as sub last week, Macrae.

Sorry. I should have used the sarcasm emoticon. Those things I said were all reasons given by the club for Newman's selections over the past few weeks.
