Chris Newman - Needs a big 2005

Re: Chris Newman (Merged)

Knighta got shown the door and I believe he was giving more at the time. Whilst that was controversial I think Newman's had his turn and has given all he's got so should make way for the next generation. That is the team thing to do.

Re: Chris Newman (Merged)

McDonough should come in for morris
astbury or lennon or Arnott or dea for newman please

He's holding up Mydoona's development. 250 games shouldn't be gifted to him. They're certainly not being gifted to the under-22s.

well according to phantom its too late. he wants out. if this happens, we know who to blame

While he shouldn't be in the 22, I'll accept it if the club gets him to 250 games as long as he retires... problem is, I said a similar thing this time last year (I'll accept he plays in the finals as long as he retires).
That's my worry. That he'll get to the 250 and then ask for another year. I don't know what his argument could be this time. I can understand him wanting the final and even the 250, although I do think it's putting a personal milestone ahead of the team objective, but I can't see what rationale he can give the club for wanting to around another year, especially given his form, or lack thereof, this year.

Madonna wants out? When did Phanto say it?

Re: Chris Newman (Merged)

Madonna will be a dead set gun we lose him we will forever rue it. An indictment on Dimma

Firstly, we don't know for sure he wants out and second, if he does, we don't know the circumstances. Lots of things go on at footy clubs that we don't know about, e.g. It has also been rumoured that he wants to go back to SA, is that true, I have no idea. We shouldn't jump to conclusions.

He looks like he could be a useful footy player for a pick 42, predicting a "dead set gun" after 8 games is a bit of a stretch.

Re: Chris Newman (Merged)

I feel like he is being nursed to 250 games, his form in this game (and for most of the year) hasn't warranted selection

Re: Chris Newman (Merged)

Not sure about the wraps on his game yesterday. He had 11 possessions. Barely passable for a flanker or are the positive assessments an indication of how little is expected of him these days.
It certainly wouldn't be enough to keep any of the juniors in the side.
Let him get to 250 if that's the plan but it should not be his choice for 2015

Re: Chris Newman (Merged)

Chris has publically said he wants to continue next season and as Dimma rates him as a valued team member then I think the odds are he will continue as will Jake. Dimma has his blind spots with some players and he will keep them at the detriment of getting a couple of youngsters with talent. Maybe I am a pessimist but mark my words

Was really impressed with Madonna ... I find Newman has had very very little impact this year, and watching the replay of the port game he had no chase in him at times ..... Such a pity he is keeping Madonna out of the team

I agree and it is also sad that a club champion like Newie will probably finish his career in the 2's if he goes on. I would like to see him bow out gracefully 250 games or not. There is still space for someone like him around the club other than with the boots on.

I think it kind of depends on who we have to lose to keep Chris and Jake in the team. I really don't think Jake will be extended. He can't play the games he required for automatic extension so unlikely they'll do that. Chris is still a toss up, but he really should be told at the end of the season that he has a choice: he can either retire, or he'll be delisted.

And Dimma struggles to understand why we failed this season.
Makes me so angry...

Re: Chris Newman (Merged)

Trade him to GWS in a mixed deal to get one of their juniors

Newie is a Tigers man, if he goes on it will be with the Tigers or nothing. Anyway GWS wouldn't want him.
