Chris Newman - Needs a big 2005

Trade him to GWS in a mixed deal to get one of their juniors

I'm certain that would work. GWS Will fall over themselves with juniors to throw at us.

I'm kidding. GWS chased senior players from winning backgrounds as some support for their kids. Brogan, Cornes, Power, Hunt, Gilham and come from clubs who won premierships during their careers or were at the club when they won them. GWS aren't going to want someone from a losing culture that lost a single EF in his footballing life.

Newy will retire a Richmond man.

Re: Chris Newman (Merged)

Love Newy.
Has been a rock in the side over the years.
And a quality Tiger person.
But his time is up and he should bow out with a big send-off.

Re: Chris Newman (Merged)

Agree,, Time to hang up the boots Chris. Cant carry King, Newman and Knigts. Of the 3 one might be very lucky to to be there in 2015. Otherwise 3 spots for some youth.

I think Knights will stay unless he cops another serious injury. He's contracted for next year. I really think both the club and Newie are hanging on for that 250th for whatever reason. He was better last week, although he only had the 11 disposals, he got it into the forward line a few times and his tackle on White was really good, but I still think the spot would be better used to develop a young player who requires the experience at the higher level, especially at this stage of the season when there are so few games left in it.

Re: Chris Newman (Merged)

A vote on news.com.au regarding whether Lenny Hayes has made the right decision to retire, 74% said yes. I hope Newie reads that. Hayes was on 291 games and no thought of hanging on for 300 and yet he was still playing good footy.

Re: Chris Newman (Merged)

Lenny Hayes' decision reminds me of Wayne Campbell who also retired on 297. I recall him saying that he would not look back on his career any less fondly just because he hadn't played 3 more games.

I have been a great supporter of Newy, not just as a player but also because of the role he played in rejuvenating the club. A great leader who is in incredibly well regarded by all the coaches and players.

My suspicion is that he won't play on and that it will be done as his decision and no one will know any different. It's time IMO.

Re: Chris Newman (Merged)

Unfortunately our last game is in Sydney. Newy deserves an MCG send off. Hopefully he announces it prior to R22 so we can cheer him off against the drug cheats.

That would be very fitting

He has voiced his opinion to go again. I Hope the club taps him on the shoulder to retire and thank him for his services.

He also said it depends on his body, and I reckon he's pulling up pretty sore after games.

And like Campbell, I hope he spends some time at the club after hew retires in in an off field role

He actually didn't. That's what the headline said but the words he said were much more vague than that.
He did say that he wasn't thinking about it and was concentrating on finishing the season well, that he hadn't had a conversation with the club yet and that it depended on his body.
Never read headlines ;D

Re: Chris Newman (Merged)

Darren Glass, Lenny Hayes and now Nick Maxwell is set to retire.....c'mon Chris....

I have to side with AB. The actual words, on the RFC web site, were:

Richmond veteran Chris Newman is yet to make a firm decision on his future but hopes his body will allow him to play on next year.

Always read the detail ;D

Re: Chris Newman (Merged)

Time it pull the trigger Tiges.
Farewells to Newman, Kingy and the Big O.
That would leave the next oldest player being what....Thomas at 27/28.
Build the list Tiges.
