Chris Newman - Needs a big 2005

Re: Will Newman end up in no-man's land?

Ok so want does he have to do to have a good year?
Does he just have to hold down a spot in our back line or does he have to move into the midfield?
And has he fialed if he does not?

Re: Will Newman end up in no-man's land?

IMO if Wallet had a choice Newamn would be first choice midfield either on wing or on the ball. He is not a human battering ram like Cogs, Tuck and Johnno, but he is quicker, cat like, great reflexes, quick hands, good on the ground, great tackler and good inside IMO. Don't agree that he is only a receiver. He would be our first choice tagger, who could run with and run off as well. In the back line unfortunately he is asked to play close to goal where he is our best option at the moment, but it doesn't suit him. His best games have been where he has played "high" back flank.

Re: Will Newman end up in no-man's land?

Newman is a great defender. Gives up so much height each week and does well.

Has one of the best vertial leaps in the AFL.

I really think his best suited to the half back flank. Plays with heart and soul each and every week.

Maybe a rotation in the midfield is an option, but dont think he has the endurance to go in the midfield all day.

Is CHRIS NEWMAN the most underrated player since MERV KEANE ?

Is CHRIS NEWMAN the most underrated player since MERV KEANE ?

Yeah I think he is...but thankfully he would have got some recognition after his fine debut playing in the International Series.

He is a fair dinkum gun...does his job week in week out...no fuss...no glory...and it's just us Tiger supporters that know how fantastic a player he is.

Like Merv...I doubt he'll gather many brownlow votes in what will become a very distinguished career...and will become a premiership player just like Merv did.

Terrific value each week , in you face type player who gives 100%, wears oppossition player like a blanket, nullifier & negator who still gets a lot of ball himself & uses it well.
'Go Tiges ' :thumbsup :emblem

Based on yesterday's performance, no.

Re: Is CHRIS NEWMAN the most underrated player since MERV KEANE ?

Does a lot of good 1%ers that don't get noticed. Typical solid without starring player.

Re: Is CHRIS NEWMAN the most underrated player since MERV KEANE ?

Type of guy first picked every week.. you just know what your going to get out of him...vital player for us in the next 10yrs.

Re: Is CHRIS NEWMAN the most underrated player since MERV KEANE ?

Hasn't been around long enough? Very interesting observation (no pun intended), he's played over 80 games. Very similar to Merv and one of those similarities is that he's not noticed much by anyone, but just goes about his work and puts in a solid performance week after week.

Re: Is CHRIS NEWMAN the most underrated player since MERV KEANE ?

Huge fan of Newmo's work.
Is underated IMO.
Gets the job done every week without fuss or fanfare.
His disposal is still the best in the side and almost always hits the target.
Easily in our best 22 and having another solid season.
I agree, he'll be a Tiger for a long time. :thumbsup

Perhaps that is an indication he IS underrated.
I'd have thought he'd played only 40 or so...

Re: Is CHRIS NEWMAN the most underrated player since MERV KEANE ?

I've been a fan of his for a while but I have to admit I'm a little disappointed in his season so far. I understand that he is doing the job every week but his All-Australian season was stellar and this year so far I don't think he's reached those heights. It's time for him to start shining again. Go Newmo!

Precisely jb.
Who did Newmo have?
Was it Harris?

Shannon Grant I believe. Jonno picked up Harris when he came on so assume Foley had Harris when Jonno was off.
