Chris Newman - Needs a big 2005

Re: Chris Newman (Merged)

I expect in semptember, when the season is over him stepping aside for Cotchin to take over.
His torp in the 2nd qtr was like he was putting up the white flag!
His time is over

You can only cross your fingers

Maybe you are right, KR but i just don't see it. Ive never seen it with him. He is just a very average footballer who will never play finals footy.
Fair enough, each to his own. I genuinely hope that if we play finals in the next few years he can take a bow as having helped steer ship in fair and foul weather.

Suspect that Ian's tone reeked of sarcasm, given his previous comments towards Newman.

Suspect tigertool knowingly took bin's comment at face value.

Re: Chris Newman (Merged)

Being a good captain is one thing

Being played out of position quite another - even given the game plan's requirements, he shouldn't be in the back half as a defender

Where else could he play? The next position for Newman is wearing the red vest

Jeepers zipper you seem to have taken our loss badly. Doctor rosy prescribes a Richmond win next weekend. The perfect tonic to cure your ails

I missed it. :(

I wish I did, unfortunately i'm as thick as 2 planks! :-\

Still, my point remains. Newman is a great captain for us, most people don't think so because he is a backman. Supporters want their captains to be midfielders and forwards nowadays.

The way he held the ball in the air for a few seconds before he kicked out made the torp look like a set play to me.
It was just the terrible execution that made it look so bad .

Re: Chris Newman (Merged)

Newman, like anyone else taking the kick in, is playing to the gameplan. If we have a back half full of stationary players all marked by an opposition player, I refuse to criticise the player kicking in for any turnover that occurs.

You can't have a captain that turns off 10 minutes in qtr because things are going pear shape.
He should've been able to be more controlled and found one of the other 17 on the ground rather then booting it down Carlton's throat!
This isn't the 1st time, in the 5 minutes against the saints last year, he did the same!
He needs a cool head in those situations, it's time the batton goes to Cotchin.

Re: Chris Newman (Merged)

Woeful game from the "skipper" but who is surprised?

Name me an IMPORTANT game where you sit back and say "gee Newman stood up".

There is none.

Swans last year when we came from behind to win.
