that would be Joel Bowden who was a dual AA CHB, because he played on the best big forwards week in week out, held his own and generated a lot of drive at the same time?

Indeed.

Here's a question for you. Who would you prefer Chris Newman or Nick Maxwell in your team?
One's a backman, premiership captain and the other one's a backman, captain yet to play in a final.

Me, I'll take Newman every day of the week.

Can't stand Maxwell but apart from the kicking (although I think Maxwell is a neat kick) he's a better footballer then Newman IMO. They play different roles but IMO Maxwell is better defensively, reads the play better to support and despite what many supporters say is hard at it (not that Newman isn't) and has a bit of pr*ck in him.

here we go again... ::)

Re: Chris Newman (Merged)

Issue #1
When Newman is out of form all the other weaknesses in his game are amplified. And they all stem from the one bad habit - he does not run with the ball. And when he doesn't take the game on he goes all conservative. And he overcooks the ball like no other.

Issue#2
Small backs who do not carry the ball or use it immediately are a liability. It's about structure. Plays. Drive from the backline. Who is the best small back in the comp who doesn't take the game on? No such player. Rance takes the game on. And he's a tall. (BTW how did we go when Newman was out last year?)

Issue #3
It's not fair to compare Newman to Chimp as a player. Not even I would be that hard on him. As a leader by example, well, the kid's already passed him.

When it comes to taking the game on every other back we have shows Newman how to do it. Houli laps him. Morris should give him a few tips at training.

It's about time Chris got back into the swing of using the ball quickly. When you're captain you're confidence problems are your own. He's got a team to lead by example. He's gotta pull his finger out and take some risks. A lot of them.

Right now his game reeks of "fml!!! I'm sah out of form! *sob* I wish I could just pop into my onesie and eat chocolate!!!!!!" Next time he stands with the footy at HBF for half an hour I hope he gets yarn bombed. Plenty of time for that.

Re: Chris Newman (Merged)

Thank you, IrockZ. FWIW I never shitcan Newman when he plays on. I like him then. But I don't like him often enough.

Re: Chris Newman (Merged)

Any winners Jack? Good to see you back fella.

Got it in one with Newman BTW.

Yep same here, I just get frustrated because he can offer so much more.

Re: Chris Newman (Merged)

Ullo, Leyser. Waddup? And yes. To that question. I've lost all my phone numbers. A storm is brewing tomorrow.

And yes, Leyser. Same bloke. He's regressed. Bah-ludger.

Mr Ninety per Cent, IrockZ. Give the team everything or *smile* off you *frown*. Is he Tivendale? Nup. Tivendale played on.

We noticeably missed him I thought. My opinion of him went up in his absence because I noticed the hole he left behind.

btw it's good news the screws have given you internet privileges again, good news for us, bad news for Mortons (and their like) everywhere

Amen. Spot on across the board. Bonus points for using onesie. Would have been the perfect 10 if you replaced "eat chocolate" with "watch Bridget Jones".

But a solid 9.57 from me.

Re: Chris Newman (Merged)

I did av a lulz, Col.

And it's not all the screws, Colonel. It's just the one. But he's pretty so that's not gay. Thanks for the gear, BTW. It was a shame Benny had to go down so you could get through but we have to make tough decisions in our line.

And SCOOP. Yeah. I changed the chocolate bit twice. I knew it was weak. But I was really proud of onesie. And the yarnbombing.

Re: Chris Newman (Merged)

Perfect opportunity to kick a captains goal in the second quarter, but as always chris Newman is always found wanting

Re: Chris Newman (Merged)

If Hardwick cannot make the call on Newman perhaps he has no frigging idea himself.
Show some balls Dimma and make the hard calls. Captain clanger is washed up.

Re: Chris Newman (Merged)

Cannot hit a target by foot to save himself this year. Lazy kicking trying to do 10-15m dinky passes that don't even make the man. Pathetic.

Re: Chris Newman (Merged)

What about waiting for the short pass to get to him in the final quarter with no urgency, then no awareness of the clock at the end. Show some humility newman and acknowledge you're not up to it.
