Chris Newman - Needs a big 2005

Re: Chris Newman (Merged)

His form has been very surprising. Poor. But all his previous years he has been really solid for us and a good kick. For some reason his kicking has been very very poor. Not sure why. We would probs be 2 wins at this stage if we got more input from Jack, Tyrone and Newman. These guys are 3 crucial players who have let their team down in the 1st month of footy. If these 3 played well we would have deffs won!

Good summary.
He's below his normal form and below par to date.
But those who damn him for supposedly always having been no good are OTT.
Likewise any idea of dumping him now as captain.
4 games into a season menas there's time for him to get back on track.

He is an upgrade on a handful of players in the team but he is in our bottom 6 unfortunately.

Yeah the rot is in atm. I have been a fan for a long time but the signs for the skipper aren't good. Especially when his bread and butter has deserted him.

Re: Chris Newman (Merged)

I thought the skipper did well against Port. Cut off their attacks. Took some good grabs and importantly, went forward, ran smart to a hole, was spotted up and kicked a sausage roll. Good game from Newman.

He was good against the Eagles as well.

Thought he was good against Geelong! Rumours of his demise are being exaggerated IMO.

Nuff nuffs spreading false rumours LTRTR ;D
Just a minor blip.

Re: Chris Newman (Merged)

It's understandable though. Many a great man has been felled by marriage.

Newman, along with Batchelor, Morris and now Dea are doing a great job spoiling the oppositions tall forwards when need be, which is very important if we are going to continue to play just 2 talls.

Re: Chris Newman (Merged)

Agreed, Brodders, we are very short atm. We'd be better if we could get a big CHB so Grimey could roam. But the skipper filled the holes well last week.

Re: Chris Newman (Merged)

Smart people SUPPORT their leader through thick and through thin.

Its called COMMITTMENT....which seems to be lacking among many posters who constantly criticise Newy....regardless of his on field leadership that ALL the Tiger players love.

Re: Chris Newman (Merged)

I do thin Newman is tapering a little as a player. I put it down to those injuries he copped early in his career.

But he should be Captain until the end of this season at least. No benefit in changing him during the season.

And I reckon his last two games have been good.

I missed that game, Sin. Mercifully. I'll take your word for it.

Could explain why the thread was silent for two weeks.

Spot on tbt.

It wouldn't be right if the "so-called supporters" let the truth get in the way of a good wack at an RFC player, even after a win.

"Newy was crap at the weekend..........only got 85 touches, only stopped 75 goals and only laid 94 tackles, albeit with a broken leg. Better get rid of him. We don't need his type at Richmond."

I wish we could delist posters like they want to delist players.

Re: Chris Newman (Merged)

There's some massively overblown stuff on this thread IMO. Newy's been a bit underwhelming at times this year, without being awful. Players have these little dips; could be a niggle, age or just a garden variety low ebb (albeit a mild one). He's never been a superstar, but his last few years have been solid. And that's just the on field stuff. I can't work out what all the fuss is about.

Re: Chris Newman (Merged)

Pffft, yep all 11 possesions of Newman was such a great effort ::) I gave him slack because of the injury so didnt bother bumping the thread but he's previous 2 games were only so-so aswell. Dea had a better game yesterday then he has had all year which is saying something.

Tuck is showing 10 times the leadership on field with his start to the season. Newman is just a passenger.
