Chris Newman to be on SEN

Aren't you a fan of Jack? ;)

Why do you ask Benny? Do you know something about Jack's personality that we don't?

You can't just strip out the good parts of BC and make wild statements like this club needs someone like that around, it's the whole box & dice.

I have met Cousins and he's an engaging fellow but it's safe to say he has had his fair share of personal demons.
Those demons resulted in his 'personality' being sacked by his last club in case you have forgotten.

ToO, I gather this meant his on field personality. I get the impression that the bulk of the list really want success but are not sure if they are good enough to attain it. Having somebody like Ben who not only wants success but is no doubt about his ability to get there would be great for the kids.

His demons will be with him for life.

Regarding Cousins, I understand he was a highly motivating individual for his team mates at West Coast... a leader one might suggest!

I don't see that would be any different for his new team mates at the RFC and from Newman's comments, he may have added an additional spark to the club... fantastic I say and fingers crossed he has a healthy (physically and psychologically) football career with us!

If there's anything our team of introverts needs, it's an injection of confidence bordering on arrogance!

Every great team has that in spades!

My point was that when Jack walked into this club we had people rejoicing that a genuine extrovert had come in. Character and leadership was all over him and despite an OK start to his career he has a lot of fans on here because of this arrogance.

It seems to be well known that over the past decade Richmond has lacked that arrogance. We are described as "mentally weak" with "quiet players who argue when things go wrong" by people who play against us (Gary Lyon said this two things recently I believe).

I was saying that if we had someone of Ben's character around the club, then maybe some of these quieter players - who had leadership thrust upon them and obviously couldn't cope - would have been very different. It's amazing what genuine leadership and belief can do.

On an interesting side note, I think there's a small link between our recent mental strength/leadership improvement with someone like Matthew Richardson improving his performances. Now that he has the support around him, with less pressure, his kicking has improved dramatically. Even in front of goal, statistically he has gone from about 59% to at a guess 69% (I last checked mid-year). Joel Bowden as a teenager was hyped up to be a James Hird special talent, but he always hated pre-season training. Maybe with Ben Cousins by his side for 10 years we would have seen Joel become a quality midfielder.

Maybe with Jack Riewoldt by his side we will see Daniel Connors become a quality midfielder.

It's all hypothetical and nobody has to agree. I just wanted to throw out there how important I think it is to have people with traits similar to Ben Cousins around the club. I know you can't pick and choose which traits to live with, but from a players perspective, I would have loved Ben at the club even knowing about his downfall. He would have helped us so much, and I don't think the cost (negative media exposure) outweighed the gains (player development and premiership).

Point well made Benny. I agree with you.

I don't disagree with that aspect benny, who wouldn't have liked a 'spiritual leader' like Cuz at their club in terms of what he offered at WC in setting the tone. At his best, as a player and on field leader he ranks right up there.

It's really just a crying shame that his habit got so out of control at WC that it started to affect much of what you speak so glowingly of because it's also apparent from some of the Weagles well documented struggles that Cousins personality rubbed off in ways that weren't so bennyficial. ;)

I really hope Cuz can get it together because if he can there's no argument that he won't help enormously but to be perfectly honest it's still very early days and he has a long road ahead. So far so good.

BTW whilst showing a bit of promise and shows plenty of confidence & exuberance, Jack's got a long road ahead too before he can be mentioned in the same breath as Cuz as a footballer.
