Chris Newman

newman for captain because he is a nice guy and the players respect him ( do you have the bucket ready)

and before you make such comments about his errors..check out every game this year and his effective disposal percentage...it is very rarely below 75 to 80...

hope you have run to the toilet by now( actually i hope you missed and its all over the floor)....and now i will run cos you make me feel sick too.....

and i will say it again....he is not getting traded as he has a long term contract...so someone obviously rates him...

Reckon we could pry Warnock away from Freo with Newman? Maybe Warnock and their 2nd rounder for Newman. I reckon they could play him in their midfield.

You do. Need to take your blinkers off when reviewing Newmans performances. He did beat Johnson, but he also made some fundamental errors (under little pressure) that have really crept into his game this year. he does lots of good things but IMO they are getting diminished by his critical errors. He is not on his own, both he and McMahon have made terrible kicking errors (for guys with rep's as great kicks) and need to reduce those to become more effective footballers.

dear big cat lover..when someone is part of your family it is hard to take the blinkers off so i in no way apologise for my opinion of chris

as for the strange people who keep suggesting draft choices for chris....read this..HE IS UNDER CONTRACT FOR THE NEXT FEW YEARS

now please...i had a late night, early morning and am very tired....

^ Contracts have no bearing at all on trades unless the player refuses to leave and I don't think that's ever happenned.

You do realise that, under the AFL rules, contracted players can be traded, don't you? ::)

The only restriction on contracts is you can't be in the first year of a new contract then traded isn't it?
This was to stop the encumbant club resigning the player, then trading them to someone else cheap.

Maybe I'm thinking of another sport. :headscratch

I'm not sure about that General. I know that rule was definitely in at some stage but I have a feeling it was scrapped. Could be wrong though.

First scalp I have seen him claim last night. Beat a good player in Stevie Johnson.

Still making stupid turnovers that a player of his age and games should not be making.

I think his contract price still has to be honoured even if he's traded. That's why you have players' wages being topped up by former clubs even when playing for another club. The club prior to being traded (if still under contract) has to pay the difference between his contract and his "new" clubs' wage.

We are likely to trade for a ruckman and Brown and Newman, with King as a possible sweetener, look to me to be the only ones over 25 who are likely to attract attention. No mature player would willingly move to Freo and I must say I prefer the look of Bailey to Warnock in any event.

Playing pretty well on Steve Johnson will not have gone unnoticed at Mirvac camp and should they narrowly lose a grand final to Geelong, Chris may well come into their calculations.

Ronni I don't care if you are his mum, he is not the right choice to captain Richmond. Lids and Foley are clearly well ahead.

i am not his mum

and i do know about contracts...

and i know a few other things too...just not worth telling most people on here....

how do you say...pffftt.....bed is calling me...

anyhow.....time will tell ;)

'night ronni, sweet dreams.

Newman had another good game yesterday.

He's finally maturing into a good defender with a fine rebound game.

Cyril can play but Newb kept him quiet.

A player under contract can be "Asked very nicely"to be traded but if they stand firm they stay where they are.
I think this happened with Ray Hall a few years ago when they wanted to trade him to the Swans and he stayed (unfortunately)

I can't see Newie going anywhere & all you people who are calling for him to be traded are going to be disappointed.

I've been disappointed with Newman this year but his game against Geelong and now against Hawthorn deserve applause. His contesting was good and his disposal and decision making much better. That is the standard I would expect of Newman.

I think if he goes anywhere it may be to the NFL.
