it certainly appears he has been very hands on in regards to recent events. he allegedly approached the coach in regards to his post match spray. i assume he had a lot of saying in regards to organising yesterdays meeting. he was also front and centre at yesterdays the press conference.

i'm one person here who was against his appointment as captain, but he certainly appears to be popular among his peers... and from the outside they appear to listen to him and respect him.

i'm just interested in peoples opinions as to how he has handled himself as RFC skipper...?

I have no idea what newman did over the weekend. I know he fronted the presser with cameron but everything else I have just read about in the papers that have proven to be the last place to look for facts wrt RFC.

i guess the question needs to be asked... is newman part of the problem?

Good question. But whatever the answer, the problem with the culture of the playing group runs deep and wide I reckon.

I also agree.

Ian, to ask the question seems to indicate you feel he is part of the problem

Why would you perceive him as part of the problem.
He's done what a leader should.
Met any problems head on and got them out in the open as quick as possible before they fester.

Gary Lyon said in The Age today he was doing all that could be expected of a captain in these circumstances.

I think with the Baptism of fire he's had this season he's doing a pretty good job

actually i don't have an opinion either way except i personally don't believe he should have been appointed captain.

as for Gary Lyon saying "he was doing all that could be expected of a captain in these circumstances," he might be right, but these are unique circumstances. should a captain have acted this way? would chris judd or brett kirk have acted in this way? or did he act in in a way that was devisive? i think you could mount an argument for both.

Whilst not being a huge fan of Gaddy Lyon, he would have a better idea of what's what than most on here I would think. At least he's stood in Captain's shoes.

Look, there is one very important question that needs immediate answers but it seems to have been forgotten.

If the press are to be believed then why the hell did Newman take, of all the players he had at his disposal, Jake King within him to Wallace's house ?

Any why was King reportedly carrying a baseball bat ;)

King didnt go inside the house. He just went along to nick Terry's car stereo. What with his inaccuracy he left with the radiator cap and a spark plug.

To practice his ventriloquism?

I can't see how it was divisive, ultimately it was all about airing grievances and clearing the air enabling all parties to move on. The problem was the leak but if it came from a player it would surely be another player, IMHO Newmo has behaved pretty well.

first i've heard that.

so confronting the coach and telling him his post match rant was uncalled for isn't potentially devisive between the playing group and the coach?

i'm not saying CN's approach was wrong, but i'm not convinced it was right either.

What would you rather ? Newman say nothing and let the matter continue to fester until it's unmanagable ?

I think bringing it to a head so it can be addressed before it's too big a problem shows a lot of maturity and leadership qualities.

It's so much easier to say nothing but so much more damaging in the long run.

Baloo, i'm playing devils's advocate here. i'm not saying what he did was right or wrong. i just think his intentions warrant a discussion.
