Clean slate for 2006

Thanks mel... just a few people like to have a dig at me because I haven't rated Kayne in the past, with good reason I might add ;) , but refuse to acknowledge I've credited him for pulling his finger out and improving this year. I hope he keeps it up and works on his deficiencies in regard to the opposition.
Most players would have specific things to be working on and I hope a lot surprise people and make them eat their words next season.

I'll actually back Tivva to be one of our most improved players next season.

Some positives:

1) Tivendale won our goal kicking contest. very accurate kick for goal.

2) 2005 saw Tivendale's ball getting ability soar. it was by far his best year for finding the ball, with many games over 20 possessions. he is getting better and better.

well thats about 20 possessions where he gets caught or puts himself under a lot of pressure and cauhgs it up.

Just wondering if anybody else gets sick of so many threads being turned into Pettifer discussions?

My post was more in response to Claw's little list Rosy, where he states Kayne is a proven Dud.

That is rubbish.

This I definately agree with! As i said in my initial post, the benefit for the club in some of the maligned players improving out of sight and cementing deserved senior spots is enormous for the club - Like Krak for instance, his apparent lack of commitment annoys me no end, that kid can definately play, he just doesn't seem to want to do the work to achieve his best. Krak would again be an example of someone from the list of 'Proven Duds' who isn't actually a Dud! lol

I do admit, I have my doubts on the ability of some to recognise improvement of players that they have spent much time slagging off. Which was why young Kayne was singled out specifically.

I want to see more Rosy v claw fights in 2006. ;D

Haha TF I'm up for that but somehow I think claw and his cohorts will be pretty quiet once we start winning more games. ;)

Even if we start winning, he'll continue to find some sort of trivial, meaningless whinge.

Hopper you're not beyond criticising the kids. I remember as Jacko's prez last season reading your opinion that he's is over-hyped by posters on PRE and insinuated he wouldn't make a league footballer.  He's just a kid who's had little opportunity.  Kayne has taken 5 years to earn his keep.  He didn't show much in his first couple of years.  It's those kind of double standards that are so annoying and don't do Kayne any favours.

Rosy, that's not true on a couple of fronts.  I am absolutely open to criticism of any player on the list - I prefer to see them as observations.  I'm well aware there are several aspects of KP's (and Krakouer's, Chaffey's, Tivendale's and even my hero Richo's) game that warrant criticism, as I've openly stated.

Jackson, as is my observation, has been wrapped up on this site beyond what he has actually showed as a player so far.  He obviously has plenty to offer and is still young (you won't find me calling for his delisting or even namecalling him by any stretch) but my observation is that he hasn't yet even been able to show he has a flair for a certain position.  I think there's lots of work to to - that's all.  Yes, I'm somewhat concerned that he will make it - but glad to be wrong.  Have to say it seems you get more concerned for protecting Jackson than the other young blokes.

I believe my posts are observations and opinions not some of the insults, slander and rantings that fly around here sometimes.

The Clean Slate theory doesn't work for me. Players earn my/everyones respect on past efforts and this carries over from the year before. No doubt we will get the following headlines over the next two months

"Insert name has trained the house down"
"Insert name has put on 5kg of muslces"
"Insert name looking for big improvement".

It's all good and well to be doing this things now but a big preseason does no wash away past sins or glory.

The overall picture of the last few years makes me form my view.

Past sins cannot be washed in Dec, Jan and Feb only in the heat of battle for the four points.

Not a lot to disagree with there scoop I'm not a fan of the spin doctoring myself and I'm sure we all have views formed on past performances.

I just don't see any use whatsoever continually raising players names saying they'll turn it over or squib contests or be too slow or will fumble marks or miss too many goals next season. :blah :blah :blah

They have the off-season to work on deficiencies. It's fine to discuss them when they happen but it's pretty negative and narrow minded to assume things will the same next season because they happened last season.

Agreed, I will go into this year (and again this is not having a dig just giving a example) that Tivendale turns the ball over too much and is the best worst kick in the history of the game. If he turns it around great I will give him his due but not before although I am plaeased at all the reports of him being fit and motivated.

I think it is extremley naive to say "Ohh well, he couldn't hit the side of a barn last year but gee whiz that was 2005 and it is all forgiven". Let's see what the boys do in the heat of battle and reform views at the end of the year.
