Cleve Hughes - Premiership Player

That's fine, I understand that many have a differing view to me.

Just as others have their views, I'm prepared to stand alone on this one.
As we've already noted, there aren't that many kpps from 2005, Hughes' draft, that are currently playing regular AFL footy. There are some kpps from the 2003 draft that are, which makes Schulz's position a bit more concerning.

Whichever way, from this thread I thought Claw made the most significant comment that, because our recruiting of talls has been so scant, we are relying on every one of our talls to make it - a very risky strategy in the light of what we observe about AFL recruiting.

And if Wallace had move Richardson aside to try his secret weapon dynamic duo people would have been swinging from the rafter crying that Wallace had tanked.

The sooner people realise that Richardson cannot be held responsible for ineptitude of some of our so called up and coming forwards the better off we will all be.

Gale, Holland, and Ottens could all work in with Richo so why can't Superman Schulz and Hitman Hughes get a kick at Coburg in a side that made the grandfinal. Jack seems to be able bag goals of 4 or so regularly.

The whole point of this post was that Hughes was dropped to the Coburg Seconds for the GF but some how this is Richo's fault.

Hughes has plenty of time, but can't say the same for Schulz.

Players at this club have not played well for years, because they are not good enough, not because someone else his holding them back or starving them of opportunities. If Richo wasn't there, they would be getting games on the basis of we have no one else, not because they have been setting the world on fire at Coburg.

Hell even Pettrified can still manage to kick goals in a forward line that is supposedly so Richo dominated.

Stop making excuses for failed recruits. (I don't inlcude Hughes in this lot as he is still very young, but needs to lift his intensity)

The unfortunate reality is that these type of players have miles to go before they will start putting pressure on Richo or any other forward for that matter.

But before they can do that they have to be able to get a kick at Coburg first.

The unfortunate reality is that you wouldnt have a clue about the forward line past or future gus.

Still stalking hey tuby ;D

Interesting comments or rather lack of comment from Royal regarding Cleve Hughes.

Cleve Hughes
"I thought it was a disappointing year for Cleve."

Is he saying alot by saying nothing at all?

Certainly showed a fair bit in the game against the Ealges

Based on that performance you would suggest he has a future at AFL level.

Give him time, sure dissapointing to end the season in VFL Reserves but hes only 21

I think some of our young kids need a challange. You could take that as a worrying sign that their not dedicated enough or you could use it as a positive and put the onus on them to step up.

How Hughes can go from a promisiing performance against a top 3 club in the comp to VFL Reserves has more to do with dedication and motivation then ability

One of the more interesting comments in the past week was Miller talking about trying to beef up the defence. That's what we thought Polak was going to do, but he had a fair bit of time in attack.

Question: Is Wallace planning on using Polak to replace Richo? I reckon it could work. Then we have Riewoldt and Patto as well (after his ruck apprenticeship ends...!!!)

I'm not at all sure that RFC is counting on Shultz and Hughes to make it.
