Club Captains Assessment of Carlton

Each club Captain was asked, 'Which seven other clubs do you think can make this year's top eight?' -
and next to Geelong and Hawthorn all of them picked Carlton !

I couldn't believe it and I'm not bagging Carlton. Don't believe I need to.

Is this a conspiracy between the other captains as a lark ? Where they under a spell in the presence of the Juddmeister?

Looked through their list via Matt Burgan's assessment too and couldn't help but think he has vastly overrated them.

I also think Burgo overrated Hawthorn (and some of our players though in the wash up I get about the same score for us).

Anyone else have the same reaction? This has nothing to do with utterly despising Carlton, just my considered and balanced opinion. 8)

Must admit I was slightly surprised to see the Bluesers getting 15 votes. Hopefully though it will lull them into a false sense of confidence. I said to a Carlton mate last night that I hoped Fev kicks 10, Judd has 45 touches and we beat them by a point after an incorrect umpiring decision in the last seconds of play gifts us a goal. Naturally I hope this isn't the case and we smash them fair and square however I do like the idea of them being robbed.

Utterly despising Carlton IS a considered and balanced opinion, TigerTrue.

Having said that, I was very surprised by that reaction. Carlton finished 11th last year and have made no noticeable improvement to their list. They are relying exclusively on the further development of their youngsters.

On the other hand, Richmond finished 9th last year, have added Cousins and possibly a fit Cogs, plus the additional year into its youngsters.

As a matter of basic logic, Richmond should be the big mover this year. As a matter of history, well, we've been in this situation before...

I wouldn't be worried as much about all of them picking Carlton to make the 8, as I would be that only 4 of them picked Richmond to make the 8.

Not fussed, this time last year we were favorites for a back to back wooden spoon.

Did the opposition captains back us for back to back spoons ? I dont remember that ?

Here's what they thought last year so don't get your knickers in a knot - it means nothing.

Which seven other clubs do you think can make this year's top eight? (16 times seven selections)
Geelong (15), Hawthorn (14), St Kilda (14), West Coast (12), Port Adelaide (12), Adelaide (11), Sydney (11), Fremantle (nine), Collingwood (six), Western Bulldogs (three), Brisbane Lions (two), Essendon (two), North Melbourne (one), Carlton (nil), Melbourne (nil), Richmond (nil).

Interesting they had 6 for the Pies and 3 for the Doggies last year.
Seeing that we have 4 this year surely means we are a shoe-In for the finals ;D

Probably. But still, if you work on the basis of majority (i.e. 7 or more) then as a collective, I think they got 10 out of 15 right. Whether that in itself is a good result is probably debateable as well though.

3 of the top 8 based on votes were incorrect last year.

The year before they only got 4 of the top 8 correct.

Fremantle (15), Sydney (15), West Coast (15), St Kilda (14), Adelaide (13), Western Bulldogs (12), Geelong (11), Melbourne (10), Port Adelaide (four), Brisbane Lions (two), Richmond (one), Carlton (nil), Collingwood (nil), Essendon (nil), Hawthorn (nil), Kangaroos (nil).

It means nothing.

I thought that was a good thing Red, whereas Carlton .... heh heh heh!

Oh well that's what I think.

First round means a bit for both teams - but there's still 21 games after to make amends -

Bet it doesn't mean nothing to Carlton that all 15 other club captains rate them that highly, or at least claim too :hihi

Doesn't bother me, going through the selections of last year the club captain's assessments seem to be as accurate as the average supporter. There's been a big push in the media for Carlton to make the 8.

Carlton should definitely improve and are a great chance of being in the finals.

We should improve too and definitely make the finals.

I prefer to be the under dog - less pressure and less likelihood that they will see us coming. Carlton supporters over rate their team by a mile and I would not be so sure they will do much better than last year. If all things were considered - we showed a lot more promise than Cartoon last year and should have been considered to be a small chance to make the finals ahead of them but instead they think Cartoon will make it. Go figure that logic!

Im with you RFC not KFC - I would love to see them robbed and see them squeal like the girls they are.

the reality is that all the AFL captains have been sucked in by the media hype about carlton. all i say is let their supporters believe it as they're gonna be in for one huge reality check :hihi

lets face it, we've been sucked in in years gone by ourselves... i'll put my hand up and concede i've been one of them. i'd like to think most of us have learnt from that. time for someone else to suffer.

yet we're still more pumped about this season than any other. The meltdown here when we lost the NAB match was amazing. I fear that while the media may have pumped the Blues up, the general RFC supporter has pumped out our prospects way too high this year as well.
