I keep hearing about how the culture of the club is a bit messed up, and this is one of the reasons RFC has underperformed for 25+ years now.

I'd be interested to hear exactly what is meant by this. I simply cannot believe that we suffer from the same basic skill errors and lack of overall game plan that have plagued us for so long.. Both the players and coaches turn over - but the song remains the same.. I don't get it..

What is it about club culture at RFC that keeps us bogged down?

One thing that was clear last night is that we have only ONE genuine onfield leader at Richmond and that is Ben Cousins, the rest are a bunch of introverts who drop their heads at the first sign of defeat.

Its simple mate.

The culture is one of THE ACCEPTANCE OF MEDIOCRITY, nothing more, nothing less. This is right across the board. Players, Management, staff the lot.

If this does not change (from the top) this rot will continue rest assured. You either WIN or You LOSE. There are NO in betweens. Its as simple as that. The rest is either *smile*, hype, excuses, posturing and weakness.

GR would be rolling in his grave RIGHT NOW !!

Fair enough ghost - but I'm wondering the off-field/behind the scenes culture.. I'd like to know what the story is there..

Who knows. But the last 25 years cant be all down to extremely bad luck.

Ghost is spot on.

A lot of ex-players (Buckley/Voss etc) say so too.

We have a team full of introverts who drop their heads, argue with each other and put their heads down at the slightest sign of pressure or defeat.

This is why we NEED Ben Cousins' personality around the club.

Ben Cousins represents everything our culture needs. Even though he's injured, he'll have a bigger impact for our on-field performances over the next month than all the mentally soft introverts that NEED Benny's leadership.

It is a sad state of affairs that we need Benny's leadership so badly.

A good friend of mine JC who played for the Tiges (No.15), played CHF/Ruck,came 4th in the Brownlow was having dinner with the team at a meeting whilst he was playing.
He looked around the table, stood up,put his hand on his heart and sang the theme song....alone.

He finished, sat down to bemused looks from the others and finished his meal.

He gave his guts for the team, was in ya face on the field, and just loved playing for the Tiges.....I just wonder how many others in the teams since have done that, or felt that...... :-\

A football club is no different to any other organisation that should have a common goal.

The culture of an organisation is set and controlled by those who run it - in other words, the head directs the tail, no the other way around. ::) The head may make all the decisions, but the neck acutally controls which way the head turns.

Are you guys hearing what Im saying?

You dont have "honourable" losses....it is a loss and is simply unacceptable at Punt Rd. THIS is what needs to change - this attitude that "oh well, we lost be we played OK" ITS AN ABSOLUTE PATHETIC MINDEST to have - the losers mentality. As the the club's "outside world" is a mess, then the answer lies within. Each individual needs to ask themselves...."what do I believe is acceptable?" The changes have to come from within FIRST.
'

If the standard that is set at the top is questionable, then the impact will be felt across the board.

I don't disagree with comments about our other players but how could you form that opinionabout Ben's leadership from last night's game? We were flogged and lacking leadership while he was out there too. I didn't notice him change the course of the game in any way.

You are absolutley correct here - there is nothing there. This is a MASSIVE deficiency. Was thinking about Shane Tuck as an example, and there are numerous others. The body language of these guys is lamentable as far as leadership goes.

Where is the outward verballing, gesturing, communication. it's a joke.

I am actually surprised D. Kingy has not had more of an impact here. MAybe some of these players are beyond changing

Agree except for 'argue with each other' which should happen but doesn't. Everytime they make a mistake they're habited to give each other a little tap on the bum or a little slap on the hand which shows the 'don't worry, good try' attitude.

This very childish and weak.
