Club Facilities & Redevelopment

I won't here a word against the 120Y. I use to rally a Datsun 1200 and that car was bulletproof and handled so nicely on dirt. I preferred my 1600 because it was a more serious car but the 1200 was beautiful to learn on. The 120Y was basically a 1200 hit with an ugly stick but the running gear was basically the same. The abolishment of group G kill both those cars as rally cars but they were both beautiful to drive through the forest.

Personally I didn't care if the door handles fell off, or the bumper, or the cigarette lighter stopped working. All that was just fluff. :P

:hihi

..and the 180B RROFO?

I love Punt Road and hope that it is mainatined as our home somehow. However, as a ground to train on, it is completely sub-standard and has been a concern of mine for a long time.

Small, egg shaped, cricket pitch in the centre, cant be used in Summer, slopes severely downhill to the train lines.

The ground as something to train on and develop players on, is sub standard in comparison with what most other clubs use.

Its a disadvantage that cant be underestimated imo.

Perhaps I am naive but why can't they train on the G?

I don't think that even Melbourne can train there. To keep it in good condition, teams are only allowed to train there occasionally (on request).

There are some unequal training arrangements at the G.
In their haste to get Collingwood as a co-tenant, the MCC gave them training rights to twice a week.
MFC, like ourselves, get once a week, I think.

Apparently in May, when the rains came, all the clubs were kicked off training on the ground, so Greg told me.
I don't know what the situation is now.

I posted on here a long time back that the RFC missed a great opportunity when it stayed at Punt Road.
The RCC could have stayed at Punt Road, but the RFC should have moved to Waverley when the Hawks & Saints took up the option.

To me, the answer is redeveloping Victoria Park into a larger training ground that a number of AFL clubs can train on. Otherwise sub-let some use of Waveley from the Hawks.

Others may have different ideas.

Apparently the RFC are finding a new permanent home for the RCC anyway. So when that happens the pitch will come out.

My 1600 had an over-bored 180B engine with twin Webber side draft carbies in it and it went just great. So the 180B is off limits too. >:( :hihi :hihi

Dont knock the 120Y!!! >:(

My first car was a Dado 120Y. It was a manual, was frog sh1t green, and was invincible! That was until we killed the engine, but then we dropped a 160B engine in, and it was lots of fun.

Great car to muck around in, and at its best I drove back from the Chevron with 8 people in it ;D

I once got 9 in my 1200. 3 in the front 3 in the back 3 in the boot which isn't as weird as it sounds since there was no back parcel shelf but they had to duck away from the roll cage. Handled like absolute crap and really didn't want to stop, pressin that brake peddle but very little happening. :-\ How dumb was I? Damn teenagers.

Memories. But we digress ...

Aren't we all showing our age here.
My first was a 180B and I loved that thing. Got me to many a Tiges game at the G from the country and a lot more.

My eight were three in the front, five in the back (two in the leg room, 3 on the seat).

I was driving, but figure it way have been interesting back there in that back seat (we had a mixed group :))

My sister had an old 120Y in the early in the 80s. I remember breaking my all time record from Prahran to Bells Beach in it. 55 minutes with the rear window down, with my surfboard sticking out.

Mind you it was from 5am.

It would often click itself out of gear. I remember parking it late one night in 1st gear, without the handbrake on. It clicked out of gear and rolled across Malvern Road into the driveway across the road without hitting any cars or trams.

Lucky that one.

Yep, funny car.
