What a load of rubbish!!! Taking the blame away from our players has been the exact reason we have suffered for so long. For years we look straight at the coach and put the blame squarely on his shoulders, letting the players get off without a case to answer for.
The coach can only do so much. It is the pathetic excuse of senior players that we have that is the real problem. How can we play like we did in the 1st quarter, yet once the pressure was applied, we reverted back to the crappy stop and prop footy!! So i take it someone else was coaching in the first qtr, and then Wallace took over the reigns. What rubbish!!!
The coach gave them clear instructions to run and carry at all times, take risks, move forward and play on. They did it great in the first qtr and $hit all over the Dawks. Problem was, once the players tired, and had significant pressure put on them, they immediately went back to their "SAVE MY OWN @SS" type of football. Meaning, they would rather stop and prop, kick the ball back 20 metres so they don't give the ball away. Instead of taking responsibility and doing the team thing by putting themselves under pressure, to create a scoring opportunity. The problem is our so called CAPTAIN is the biggest culprit of that exact tactic. The amount of times he turned the ball over was disgraceful and blight on the fact he is our captain. We are a rebuilding side, with too many youngsters to run games out and put physical pressure on our opposition. The main problem is our Senior group of players that should be leading the way, are the ones that start the rot in each game.
Johnson, Tivendale, Bowden, Tuck, Pettifer, Sculz, Brown, Richo are all a part of the senior core that should be leading the way, unfortunately one of them gives his all, but will let you down at the most crucial part of a game, and the other simply can't do it all on his own, considering he has just come back from such a horrific injury.
Put those names next to Mitchell, Crawford, Hodge, Bateman, Campbel, Croad, Taylor, Smith and you can see the reasons why we capitulated so easily. Let's be honest, who actually won the game for the Hawks. It was the players i mentioned above, that stood up when they needed to. The others followed and finished off all their good work. Frankling did nothing in the first half when the game was close, and only came into it once they too control of the game.
Point is, we can't expect Edwards and Tambling to win us games. Not going to happen.
I don't understand the hysterics of some on this board. The media are a pack of knobs as every single one of them had put us down to win the wooden spoon, and that is exactly what is happening. So what's with the doom and gloom. We have shown in patches, that we are capable of matching it with the best, but unfortunately due to our youth and bodies, we cannot contain the momentum over 4 qtrs.
No one likes losing, but i think we are overreacting, and i can see great signs for our future, aslong as we have patience and luck with injuries.
Apart from Kingsley, the rest of our reserve team is made of youngsters, who are coming along nicely. When teams are flying, all their youngsters look good. Take Crawford, Mitchell, Bateman, Hodge and their rucks out of the Hawthorn side, and we will see how good they would travel.
I agree, there are certain players that need to be moved on at the end of the year, and i believe it will happen, but till then we need patience.
