PUNT ROAD END | Richmond Tigers Forum

Reading comments about dropping Whitey got me thinking he's one of the last players who should be dropped imo. He's had a really good season so far apart from lowering his standards last week. I'd be really diasppointed to see him dropped on the back of one game in which worst on ground could be announced as "team effort".

Matty is a very self-motivated kid and I'm sure he will go out of his way to make ammends this week. He's been sent back to Coburg several times and each time has been in the best players, really working on his game, and has been great when elevated again. I'm sure the coach could give him a pep talk in regard to what's required and keep him in and Matty would reward the faith.

I am really disappointed some of our more senior players don't get sent back to find a bit of form and show they're willing to do what's required for the team. What's required doesn't include sulking or poor performances at Coburg or simply idling in the seniors each week. Everyone needs to earn their spot, in fact a few should probably tap Terry on the shoulder and volunteer to have a run at Coburg. We'd be a far better team if every single player in it knew Coburg was more a reality for a form lapse/lack of effort/ than automatic selection each week.

I think Terry has pandered to a couple of players when a kick up the backside might have benefited the team more overall. How must the kids feel when they pay the price yet some more senior players coast along on easy street yet still get rewarded.

Selection should be done on form and match-ups, not on name, and Coburg should be considered a coaching tool, not a punishment.
