Re: Coburg Tigers v Box Hill Hawks

POLO speaking now: speaks well, usual cliches, articulate; as usual; found out today he had the job on Franklin today at CHB: he felt honoured, pumped, he's been playing midfield but today down back really worked.

Re: Coburg Tigers v Box Hill Hawks

White 20 posessions
Polo 18 kicks, 3 handballs, six marks, 2 goals 2 points, and got Franklin dragged
Humm 15 posessions, 3 goals
McGuane not given, played defence, but scored 2 or 3 goals.
Howat 17 posessions, 2 goals
Limbach 11 pos, 7 marks, 3.4 goals

Ronaldson given SEN best on ground, but only because Polo already had the medal
Dean says: Boyz were pumped, Collins said b4 the game go out hit hard. Was told he had job of Boyle, but Boyle played 2's so was told this morning to play Franklin. When asked if he was a back or forward he said 'midfield'.

Dean Polo wins the Eric Lyons medal

Votes
Polo - BOG 3 votes - unanimous from 5 commentators. 15 votes altogether
Dean Limbach got 1 too
Ronaldson and Shelton cleaned up most of the othe votes

Apologies to Meyer and White, mcguane and humm mentioned as very good players today
Polo: they're raving about him described as composed, reads the ball really really well , pace. Time leaps well.
Very good midfielder or half back flanker

Can't they change it to:

'Oh we're from Burgerland' .......
............like the Tigers of old, we're strong and we're bold, we're from Coburg red and blue, we're from Burgerland'

Re: polo vs franklin

Who the hell is Franklin ??

Polo played on a player virtually at the same level as he is. Just because Franklin has debuted doesn't mean he's a well experienced player already. What an overcook that was.

franklins done some very good things 4 the hawks and looks to be a future star, for a much shorter polo and much less reputation is a pretty good effort. Will give the kid some confidence to take a scalp like that. Will make wallace smile a bit as well.

Re: polo vs franklin

Polo looks a bit ungainly, not like a "natural".

But he did well on Franklin.  Franklin had little effect on the game, although he is taller and faster than Polo.  Remember that Polo was playing for Coburg Reserves last year when Franklin was playing for Hawthorn.

Polo did the discipline things and ran off intelligently.  This must have been in obedience to instructions. Kicked one goal like that and would have had another, but this one was disallowed after an infringement in the square.  Kicked another goal after Franklin gave away a silly 50m penalty.

Looks like he might be effective for us but it is DEFINITELY a good sign that he played a very good game for Coburg.

Re: Coburg Tigers v Box Hill Hawks

Some good things out of today's game.

First, the sausages at the sizzle were of excellent quality.

Second, this Collins fellow seems to be able to coach. Coburg were reasonably direct, they moved the ball quickly, and they PUT PRESSURE ON THEIR OPPONENTS. This was really good to see and something of a novelty.

Limbach and McGuane both look too skinny. But I loved McGuane's efforts at the end of the third which put the game beyond Box Hill. I was reminded of Terry Wallaces comments about "cameos'. We see him do a few of these things every now and then, and look to see more of it.

Meyer was dangerous up forward and put on good tackles on at least two occasions.

White was good. And of course Polo as has been said elsewhere.

Re: polo vs franklin

I'm guessing this will probably get moved to the coburg boards eventually, so I'll keep my comments here rather than have 2 threads going.

Just got back from the game, and all I can say is gee I'm glad we didn't get Frankling (based off todays performance). Dropped some marks, very rarely did he chase, and didn't play smart. He's a good athlete, and he'll come good eventually, but I reckon they might have got themselves a richo style player. (ie Mentally immature not so much physically). Yes he's not match fit yet, but take that aside, it was the fact he wasn't mentally strong that would concern me.

Polo did great, earnt his best on ground effort. Limbach did ok, McGuane has an awesome leap.

I actually thought Meyer was fairly quiet, doesn't seem to present enough of work hard enough off the ball, although others might have seen otherwise. Humm was pretty good as well.

I still saw some very ordinary disposal at times (once or twice from Polo, Limbach's kicking for goal was...ordinary).

Nice to bump into Skills, Structures and GPB as well.
