Coburg Tigers v Box Hill Hawks [Merged]

Rocked up to the ANZAC day game and walked away quite impressed with the performance.  In no particular order:

Andy Collins is the quietest coach I have ever heard/not heard.  You would have had to crane your head and point your hearing aid in his direction to hear more than a word or two.  Very cool, obviously very well prepared.

Polo was sensational.  He was taken right out of his comfort zone and given the job on the potential match-winner.  Grew in confidence with every contest.

Franklin is a sook.  Polo beat him in a couple of contests around CHF just before half-time.  Franklin spent the next five minutes or so watching the game with his hands on hips out on the wing while Polo ran off him.

Matt White was excellent, played wing and across half-back and looked like a good old-fashioned ruck-rover, hard at the ball and ran hard.  Will be a player.

Meyer looked good when he got clear but didn't do a lot.  There were times when he looked like he needed a crossword puzzle to do, he looked so bored.  Not his best game.

Limbach did well and provided a strong, dangerous forward target.  Struggled kicking into the strong wind that was blowing across the ground.

McGuane did a few good things and kicked two nice goals just before 3/4 time.  Good game.

Humm, my choice for BOG-very hard at it.

From the Coburg players, I thought Jonno Mullins did very well once he found the pace of the game and Eric Kuret showed good leadership.

Let's hope the Coburg boys can keep playing like this because they will win a few games if they can.

If Jonno Mullins was the young aboriginal boy, (and he looked like a little boy amongst them) he played quite well, did a lot of good things.

He took a shot at goal in the last when Limbach was looking for another goal, and put it well wide. Dean said something like "Trucking help Jonno, kick it to me". Thought that was probably the worst thing I saw all day from a Tiger point of view.

Worst thing I saw all day is the mistreatment of the grass just between wing and half forward. There were several large indents which appeared to have the same size and shape as Franklin's feet. The groundsman said it was because there had been a large static force parked on top of it for lengthy periods of time. :hihi

Scores:

Coburg:7-3, 10-8, 15-12, 20-20-140
Box Hill:2-4, 7-7, 10-12, 12-14-86.

Goals:Coburg: Limbach 3, Polo 3, Humm 3, Shelton 2, Meyer 2, Mcguane 2,
Howat 2, Carnell 1, Kuret 1, Mullins 1.

Box Hill: Kane 2, Hunter 1, Wilson 1, Miller 1, Hassett 1, Boyle 1, Hill 1,
Seehusen 1, Little 1, Mcglynn 1, Franklin 1.

Last quarter the kicking for goal was quite bad. Eight points in the last
quarter. Polo best on ground definitely. Johnno Mullins was one of our best.
Matt White played very well too.

No JON didn't play.

Went to the ground for the last half.

Polo played very well. Left Franklin at CHF and just kept running off him. Took a nice speccie also and generally had very good disposal.

White ran and ran and ran. Good game from him. Will do well to play the season at Coburg and plays the type of game Wallace is after.
Wallace was at the game.

Limbach. Took some good grabs but is still very light. Kicking is ordinary for a guy that only plays as a forward. Still not convinced.

McGuane played forward for the second half. Took a great speccie. Has an awesome leap. I am still very confident time will see him make the grade at AFL level.

Meyer. Didn't get a heap of it but positioned himself well and was very clean with his skills on both feet.

Mullins played well including some nice grabs in the second half but at 169 cms or so I doubt he will ever make an AFL list.

Ronaldson Kuret King Shelton among the best for the Coburg listed players.

Overall a really good team effort, displaying a good brand of attacking footy.

We may struggle against more experienced sides, but against the Hawks, who are a similarly inexperienced side, we should do quite well.

Top stuff Burgers. :clap

We have quite a few young key position forward options at the moment, but no fit defenders.

McGuane
Limbach
Hughes
Pattison
Schulz (inj)

Are all natural forwards in my opinion.

Thursfield (inj)
Moore (inj)
Schulz??? (inj)

Defenders are all injured?

We really need to fill this void in the next draft, 2 or 3 key defenders would be nice.

Ronaldson is a likely type??

I think Ronaldson is more of a ruckman cracker?

Did anyone else notice the young bloke sat in the forward pocket (grandstand wing) with a sheet entitled "Match report" diligently scribbling a detailed account of the game?

A HHQ member perhaps? Might go over there and see if there are any detailed match reports. ;)

I agree with the defenders situation. We can get a couple of those guys to be bandaids down back, but we need a 195ish cm defender.

McGuane and Limbach look a couple of inches short to be KPP's at AFL level. Both look like they'd be good in a pocket or flank as the third tall option.

Polo, 187cm, on Franklin 197  cm  :-\

A bit like Archer on Richardson. ;)

If Polo can eventually do that at Senior level, it would allow either of Newman or Raines to play upfield.

Unbelievable. A match day thread on Coburg. Well done to all who contributed.

Hope Claw was reading this.

Promote this Collins Fella ;D

This is the sort of development the young guys need and by the sounds of it many of them are showing good signs of stepping up. Well done to all.

Re: polo vs franklin

I'm such a proud President of Dean Polo tonight  ;D.

Young Dean put in a career best performance against a bigger and stronger Box Hill unit today, and Dean had the task on 'Buddy'  :rotfl.  Giving away many centremetres, Dean played a disciplined game that took Franklin to the cleaners and eventually was dragged (Franklin) midway through the last term.

Dean endeavoured to continuosly harrass Franklin with every opportunity, ran hard with him and spoiled his marking opportunites, took some nice marks against him, and even found space to run off his position of CHB (and at times full back) to create play in the forward line.  Once Franklin came off, Dean dominated with possessions in the backline and ran up the ground again to create options.  He was rewarded with the Best Man on the Ground Award and boy were his team mates happy, as was Dean's carer, who I spoke to at the end of the game who couldn't wipe his smile off his face.

A great team effort by the boys today, and an exceptional game by young Polo, who would guess took another step closer in being selected for the RFC.

Well done Dean  :clap :clap :clap :clap, but the battle for recognition is running out for the RFC, and I bet you would exchange today's medal for a gig in the seniors. ;)

A look at the game from their point of view.
