Coburg Tigers v Box Hill Hawks [Merged]

Really impressed by the physical side of Coburgs game today - they tackled hard all day, put on some good bumps and didnt shirk any contests at all.

They also put plenty of work into Franklin, both phsyically and verbally - everytime he made a mistake he copped it from 3-4 Coburg players.

Rimmington gave him a massive spray after he dropped a mark on the lead infront of the hill.

Wasn't that great by the Coburg boys DF?

Franklin goes in his shell when he is verbally harrassed and is one form of attack opposition teams/opponents can use as a weapon on him.

I too gave it to Buddy ;D when Polo was kicking goals, especially in the second quarter when Polo was setting up play in the Coburg forward line.

Hi Golden, I noticed you down there, as a matter of fact, I was several metres in front of you.

I wonder who that feral supporter was shouting out to Buddy where his minder was? ::)

I only really saw the 2nd half, but as his President, I just wanted to say well done to Jeremy Humm. After playing one game in the seniors than back to Coburg, he put in and kicked 3 goals today, and was in the best players.

Keep it up Jeremy, and senior selection will come your way again. :hearton

i Guess Any Collins well and truely knew all the box hill boys strengths and weaknesses, great pick up from TW!!!

Quote from HHQ:

"It looked like the local Coburg/Richmond crowd got to him, and he really dropped his head".

I gather you must have been amongst that crowd Geoffryprettyboy?? :hihi :hihi

Best part of todays game were the fresh faces that appeared in the Coburg Senior team - Infact David Flood made the same comment.
Although still light on in the back half, Coburg impressed me with there run, chase & tackling.
Will be interesting to see how a forward line comprising of Hughes, Limbach, McGuane, JON's & Meyer shapes up.

I would just like to thank the person who handed in the the lost mobile phone that was found at today's game.

My phone must have jumped out of my pocket somehow and was handed in by this kind person to the ground staff.

If this person is a PRE'ender or reads PRE, I would like to shout this person a beer or 5.

Again??? Try putting the bloody thing around your neck next time.

Who the hell is Franklin ??

Polo played on a player virtually at the same level as he is.  Just because Franklin has debuted doesn't mean he's a well experienced player already.  What an overcook that was.
franklins done some very good things 4 the hawks and looks to be a future star, for a much shorter polo and much less reputation is a pretty good effort. Will give the kid some confidence to take a scalp like that. Will make wallace smile a bit as well.

Agree richards. Although Franklin hasn't set the world on fire and has just come back from injury, lets not take nething away from Dean. Franklin has shown glimpses in the seniors of his athletic and footballing ability. A couple of ripper goals on the run last year and just the way he moves has shown that he most likely will be a huge talent. He was also taken at pick 5, polo at pick 20. Whilst i dont really think Polo will become a gun and isn't naturally as gifted as the top notch players, this is a great sign that maybe Polo might come on better than alot have thought. Would be a big bonus if he does come good and become a solid Tiger player. WELL DONE DEANO. Now believe in yourself, work hard and get out there and show us why we took you at pick 20. Don't think, DO!

GO TIGES!!!

Great effort by a very much undersized Burger outfit. Giving away much height they were forced to come up with some unorthodox tactics, one being the master stroke by Collins of putting Polo on Franklin.

Collins obviously recognised Franklin has no defensive element to his game and had Polo run off him at every chance. Which he did. Absolutely towelled a petulant and “soft” Franklin up. He goes hard the Polo Bear and is very good in the heavy traffic and is good above his head. But I still worry about his class by foot and his 20m speed and whether it will be up to it under the quantum leap in intensity that senior AFL football brings.

Thought White did quite well. Incredible speed and stamina. He is showing that he can  move up to higher levels by going from Calder to VFL seniors and adapting well, quickly.

Humm was pretty good. Fair bit of the ball. Ronaldson battled hard (albeit a terrible decision to try and mark the ball in the full back goal square instead of punching – which cost us a goal). Howatt and Shelton were very solid contributors.

McGuane. Not a lot of it but shows he has a good set of hands and can leap. Like Polo, worry about his class by foot though (very awkward ball drop).

Limbach looks like he’s lost the weight he put on over Summer ? Looks very skinny. BTW where’s his position ? He’s never gonna be able to play ff at AFL senior level because of his relative lack of height and his definite lack of body size and strength. Besides, we have Hughes coming through in that position as well. I’d like to see Collins move him up the ground onto a hff or wing so we can see what he can do there because there is no way he’s gonna make it into senior AFL football playing full forward.

Meyer – again, too quiet for my liking. Very talented, but still needs to go to the play more rather than waiting for the play to come to him.

One player nobody has mentioned is Sam Robertson. Sam’s a kid I mentioned a few times on PRE last year. Sam had a very good game minding Josh Wilson (the kid who kicked a bag for Eastern in the TAC Cup grand final a couple of years ago and a very good player himself.) Sam’s a 193cm backman. Very skinny (built like a whippet at the moment) but a very well skilled and courageous player who has a very good head on his shoulders. Think Thursfield but not quite as athletic, but a much better disposer of the footy. Sam was in the Vic Metro squad last year before getting injured and missing the U/18 Champs. He came back later in the year to hold down CHB for Calder and play very, very well (played an absolute cracker against Sandringham in one game). If he can put some muscle on, he’ll be one to keep an eye on......

And TigerBeagle, how could you possibly see yourself fit to give us a summary of the game ? Fair dinkum, no way you could have seen anything. You had that much hair going on yesterday you looked like one of those old English sheepdogs !! Add to the fact you were staggering around under the burden of what looked like 10-12 cans and hopelessly trying to chat those girls up, and quite frankly TigerBeagle, I dunno if we can rely on your account of the game !!! Haaaaaaaargh haaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh haaaaaaaaaaaargh haaaaaaaaaaargh !!!!
