Coburg What do you think?

I understand what you're saying MC but, as warm and fuzzy as it makes me feel to think about the old Twos and Thirds, it ain't gonna happen.

I have trouble watching a side in black & red, but seeing our young'uns performing more than makes up for it. And it keeps one of the old VFA sides going.

With what others have already said about the benefits, I figure it's a win/win for us and the Burgers.

We are just getting our heads above water again, let's not jeopardise our finances by trying to float our own Reserves.

And relying on Crazy John to pay for a team? Now that is crazy!

Don't let any of the Burger faithful hear you referring to their colours as black and red.

Oh the humanity! :)

Hmmm good thread, nice to see most are on the same page in feeling the arrangement with Coburg is fine right now.

I think the Coburg arrangement is working very well, and I actually think we are using it very effectively compared to the arrangement between some other AFL/VFL alliances.

The recovery of Richmond Football Club's financial status is as paramount to the chances of RFC winning premership trophies as the management of our list and coaching etc. It would be grossly negligent to start splashing around money on our "holiday home" before we fix our own home.

I have strong hopes the relationship will work even better with the appointment of Jade Rawlings as I think this is a great move to ensure the boys at Coburg will be coached in a system strongly aligned with RFC's requirements. Some of the VFL clubs are very resistant to too much of a AFL influence (understandably so, it's a difficult balancing process), whereas I am fairly confident we will have a even better relationship with rawlings than we did Collins (which was excellent).

For now we have a strong say, and even recruit the coach of Coburg (we have the last two times at least), this also appeals to me.

Lastly the move helps grass roots. Coburg was almost belly up before we came along (ironic huh?). Cleary and the like have the right to champion their clubs, Coburg has a great history, we are the invaders (benefactors) so it's just a case of finding the right balance. I couldn't care less what color jumper our rookie/young players wore, the only jumper that matters is the senior side for the Richmond Football club. All else is distant in importance. If Digger is running around in a purple jumper with yellow poka dots (coburg is actually sark blue and red by the way), I couldn't care less. I'll still look forward to watching him jump to the moon.

Well, seeing as the pies now have their own reserves team, what about us?

For me I have no passion in Coburg, they ARE and will NEVER BE Richmond. They don't have our colours, what club song do they have? I am NOT HAPPY JAN. :veryupset

I don't think it helps our young guys and their development, if you are stuck playing there I think you may feel disconnected with Richmond. Surely if Geelong can field a 2nd's team, we can.

On grand final day, I felt annoyed listening to Phil Cleary talk about Coburg, FFS, let's have our own team.
MILLER LIFT! :fire

My question is why the hell has Jade Rawlings been moved out of the assistant coaches role into the coburg role so quickly? Smacks of another poor decision by wallace. Rawlings IMO has achieved diddly squat during his career and has no idea.

Does anyone remember back to when we struggled to field a full reserves side? They were draging people in from the street and one of the employees at the club, office worker I think, had to saddle up too.

I'd love our own reserves team to play curtain raisers at Punt Road/MCG before our games but it's a bit of a fantasy. Our reserves situation got pretty rock bottom from memory.

We'd want to be sure things would work out better before we ever considered going it alone. As DD alludes to the alliance is a win/win the way it is now.

They are not black and red Growl, but Blue and Red.

The Burgers are great for Richmond and Richmond are great for the Burgers.

The Burger supporters are passionate and love supporting our Tiger cubs putting in the hard yards at Coburg, along with the Coburg boys.

With the 'sort-of' alignment with the Calder Cannons the success of Coburg and Richmond should be parallel.

Cannons such as Caruso boys, Horney, Gazzo, Robbo, Silvester, Farelly, Huy, and McErlain have all earnt senior spots at Coburg, while Whitey, Gus and Hardo earning Tiger stripes in recent years it can only add up to better player development, on field success and enjoyment for the fans and officials over the fence. (sorry if I missed anyone)

Go Tigers. Go Burgers. Go Cannons.

How's young Whitey going Rimau...? Is he having a break at the moment or back into training?

I dont agree with the AFL controlling the VFL teams, but we have a good connection with Coburg.

A good pathway for Cannons player and EDFL footballers. Kids can rock up and do a pre-season with Coburg without getting asked. My mate turned up and then was put on the list. This was back when Matty Rogers was still playing and its a good experience for 18-19 year olds who didnt make AFL.
