Was up at the Olympic Park/Melbourne Park/Bob Rose Park/Lexus Centre… whatever the hell its called nowadays this week, and if Scumwood and McGoo reckon they’ve got a state of the art training facility up there, then they’re kidding themselves.
The gym, pool and admin centre up on the corner of Swan and the Exhibition street extension might be alright, but it’s a bloody mile away from the actual ground that the players train on. Logistically, there’s no way it could be working all that well.
But most importantly, the ground itself is crap. I went for a run around it and its full of uneven spots just ripe for a knee or ankle. Its rock hard and has big scrappy tufts of grass everywhere. Furthermore, their forced to use a crappy shed to next to the ground to change in, store equipment in etc. Every bozo and his dog (me included) rocks up to use the place, especially the running track that goes along the outside of the ground. Its not like the place is sealed off or anything like Punt Road Oval is.
The whole set-up looks very disjointed and like some sort of “public amenity.”
