Just read on that Web Site (the one no one can cut and paste from) that the Collywobbles membership has already reached 25,000.

Come on people put your hands in your skyrockets otherwise Eddie will start to believe his own hype. I hate being beaten by the Wobbles at anything even membership numbers.

Imagine what our membership could be if we had a couple of successful years in a row.

Go Tigers

Imagine what our membership could be if we had a couple of successful years in a row.

It's about time we found out what a couple of successful seasons in a row was like, but I'll take it one successful season at a time.

It's important we get off to a good start this year or we'll struggle to get to 25,000 members.

C'mon Richmond, flog Collingwood and keep going from there. Hopefully the team can win back the respect of fans who've been loyal for so long but have run out of patience.

Go Tiges.

It's about time we found out what a couple of successful seasons in a  row was like, ...

How true Rosy. I know we Richmond supporters get battered from pillar to post about our support, but how amazing would that be. It's easy to support your team when they're going well, not so easy when they're not going so well. But the difference between us and others is that we have been the easybeats for a long time now. People want value for money these days.

There are many of us who buy a membership, year in year out, regardless of the circumstances. For others, they want some sort of assurance that they're at least going to see a competitive team and a good game. That hasn't been the case with us for a while. We're either good or bad and there's not much in between. And you'd even have to say that our good hasn't been anywhere near good enough.

Over the years I've heard the sound of seats emptying as we've gone on our way to another flogging. It's disheartening to see, but I can understand how those supporters feel. Maybe some people just find it hard to sit there and watch their team get killed every other week. There have been times when I've felt like leaving too, but I can't. Maybe I'm the eternal optimisit, or maybe it's just that I know that, whether I stay or go, the pain will go with me.

Whatever anyone wants to say about our supporters, they've never let their Club down in the past and I have no reason to doubt them now.

You're right Rosy, it would be nice to know what a couple of successful seasons in a row would be like, instead of the torture we've become used to.

And it would be nice to genuinely have something to cheer about.

And they have the nerve to call us bandwagoners ::). Where were all these members when they won the wooden spoon.

Also the membership count doesn't conclude until June or whatever. So let's wait and see as a good start to us would get the membership numbers rolling.

GO TIGERS!

Where were all these members when they won the wooden spoon.

During the 80's, membership numbers ranged from around 3,000 to 12,000. It wasn't until about 1990 that Clubs really started to push memberships as a means to survival.

Why did we have so few members at such a low time? Ask the administration at the time how well they marketed the Club. We can blame supporters, but I thinkt he Club needs to take a fair amount of responsibility for that too.

I first became a member in 1987. That wasn't going to be the case, because, living in the country I couldn't see the purpose of being a member and living 550km away when it was obvious I wasn't going to get to many, if any games.

I wrote to the Club and told them this. The Club wrote back and said that my membership woud help the Club to survive. Knowing this, I became a member that year and have been ever since. At the time, however, I don't know that this point was being made to supporters. I certainly wasn't aware that this was the case until I received a reply letter.

There's two sides to every story MT.

I wasn't referring to us MC24 but to Collingwood. They won the wooden spoon only 3 years ago not 10-15 years ago when I agree each club was lucky to get anywhere near 10000 members. Collingwood were lucky to get 25000 just 3 years ago by the June cut-off yet their supporters are happy to turn around now and claim that Richmond supporters are bandwagoners. Since the membership drives of the early 90's we've consistently had between 25000-29000 members and pretty consistent attendance levels at games even given our poor on-field record.

My mistake MT. I wrongly assumed you were talking about us. My apologies.

This was a year ago. Does anyone read the Colliwobble site? I wonder how their membership compares this year.
