after watching the pies last night i am convinced they are hitting their best form at the right time of the year. dont for one second discount the opposition. a 19 man melbourne are a very very good team and collingwoods effort was good to hold them. that 1 goal that medhurst kicked in the last 50 odd minutes of play was vital and a real beauty. they were equally impressive against a rampaging red hot inform richmond oufit who were lucky to get the points and the other inform club in the comp carlton the 2 weeks previous to that.

a real threat this year i tell ya

Though Licuria didn't play last night for some strange reason - they really missed his run and carry through the midfield - I generally agree - good youth and pace in the backline too with Wakelin, Clement and Presti. Also excellent back up to the outstanding Fraser in the ruck. Exciting times ahead at Pie Land.

Agree on the youth, but they are nackered. As for the trio you listed, Presti and Clement are slowing down to *smile* proportions now, and Wakelin has to be looking at hanging em up at years end. A combination of age and injury has taken the pace out of these three, and if you dont have pace in the backline in the current game you struggle to contain goals.

It's just just a shame that such a exciting young team with such great September prospects doesn't get any media coverage. It's not fair that glamor teams like the Roos are getting so much media this year when the Pies are obviously a better team.

I thought they peaked 4 weeks ago and have been on a downhill slide ever since.........which is a shame.

IMO i think that the Ferrels are doing this season what the Tiges have done up and down for the last 10 years. They are over achievers, for 1 reason or another they are above where they should rightly be on the ladder. This provides a false sense of hope to the supporters and a huge challenge to the club to actually be able to view reality, in which their short sightedness will, in hindsight, (1-2 seasons) be their downfall. So lets all hope they try for the top up method this year so we can watch them languish at the very depths of the abyss ( The AFL Ladder) from whence we had risen and bathed in the euphoric sweat of the gods.
