Comparison Tiges, Hawks, Dogs & Pies 2004 draft to now

Think you misunderstood his post. It was players from last round that were at their respecive clubs in 2003.

Sorry about that, WT. I went off half-cocked, much like the Carlton board which is now half-dicked.

polo was doing fine until his shoulder injury and was a constant in the team. he has great potential, but it seems for some reason he isnt given a go.
would much rather him as our tagger, than jackson, hyde and even kane. yes kane has had a good year, but give polo half a year in the seniors in a row, and i guarantee he will be winning his own ball, kicking goals and stopping the opposition.
but this year he aint got a go. 1 game then dropped.
play him for the rest of the year then either say ur delisted, or ur part of our future. thats the only way to know.

should do the same for a few others, but who has the guts.....and thats why we stagnate where we are.

At least you have the good grace to admit mistakes Craig.

My feeling on 2004 is that it was solid without being spectacular, the same goes for 2003.

Nobody could argue that Deledio, Tambling, Thursfield and Foley will form a solid nucleus moving forward. Guys like Moore, Raines, Tuck, Pattison and Polo have every chance of playing their part in a successful Richmond outfit. Sure, the latter all have their flaws but no no team has 20 superstars playing at any one time. With Rance, Riewoldt, Cotchin and Edwards coming through, I believe things are taking shape nicely.

I sincerely hope we are able to snare a ruckman in this years draft because the stocks are a dangerously thin at the moment. This is the one area that Wallace has neglected and puts us in a position whereby we may have to pay well over the odds, 2004 was certainly a missed opportunity in this regard.

Interesting that last week the dogs and Hawks had 10 or 11 players each in their teams that were on the respective lists back in 2003.

RFC had 6.

Can you please name the 11 from Hawthorn that played last week please?

Sure there is plenty to criticize with player development, and recruiting, but at least stick to facts.

The fact is that all the players I noted were better in their initial outings than latter. Do you disagree with that statement.

Raines - runner up in the Rising Star award and now?
Polo - took on oppositions best players and cut them out in his first year and now?
Connors - initial matches were as a hard nosed in and under type midfielder and now?
Jackson - the player to take over tagging duties from Kane and now?
Edwards - the creative spark that suddenly burst into the team and now can't get near the ball.
King - the hard running back pocket who now creates turnovers and lets his opponent have soft goals.
Hyde - the player who was one of our best link players before fracturing his skull and now can't get going in the midfield and is criticised as a poor tagger.
Pattison - who carried our rucks single handed and now can't even seem to provide a contest and is being dismissed as not being a ruckman, maybe a CHF.

I believe they have gone backwards because of poor coaching.

Interesting. Jury still out on Wood IMO, struggling to usurp Bryan.

haha thats a classic the pies giving up pic 14, i thought it was too high and some posters here were saying at least there attending to list needs, what a load of crock cause if the player aint that good its a wasted pick, simple as that. I was 50/50 on whether this kid can make but the more ive seen of him this year i seriously think he aint gonna make it....Well pic 14 was way over the odds IMO....

Raines - runner up in the Rising Star award and now? Only just back from long term injury - cut him some slack.
Polo - took on oppositions best players and cut them out in his first year and now? Has been Coburg's best in the last few weeks and is about to get another crack at the big time. Needs to produce this time around though.
Connors - initial matches were as a hard nosed in and under type midfielder and now? Had no pre-season which didn't help and is apprently finding form. Consistency within games is his issue it appears.
Jackson - the player to take over tagging duties from Kane and now? Went ok on the weekend but is going to need to step it up if he wants to prolong his career. On his last chance I would guess.
Edwards - the creative spark that suddenly burst into the team and now can't get near the ball. Has Krak been playing with the Liquid Paper again?
King - the hard running back pocket who now creates turnovers and lets his opponent have soft goals. True but they are issues that can be dealt with. Composure and controlled aggression can be taught. Still valuable.
Hyde - the player who was one of our best link players before fracturing his skull and now can't get going in the midfield and is criticised as a poor tagger. Criticised as a poor tagger by who? Ablett beat him up but who doesn't he? He's done some good jobs as a tagger. Having said that, he's not part of the future.
Pattison - who carried our rucks single handed and now can't even seem to provide a contest and is being dismissed as not being a ruckman, maybe a CHF. I didn't see much wrong with his game on the weekend. He's only ever going to be a relief ruckman but he won his share of tapouts on the weekend and worked hard around the ground. Perhaps we watched different games?

Read that someone was sad we traded pick 19 - to the Bulldogs - guess who they got, a young midfielder/forward who has kicked 2 goals in two games - Callan Ward. No surprise I know the kid, his grandfather played for South Melbourne, his Dad for Yarraville in the VFA. Kicked 6 goals on the hf flank in losing semi in u18s. Sad to say we will pay for that one...

It was Brown, Hodge, Young, Ladson, Williams, Mitchell, Osborne, Clarke, Boyle and Bateman I believe.

We would never have taken Callan Ward with pick 19 anyway. We would have taken Selwood or Adamm Maric.

Surely either of those was our future.

Not Jordan McMahon!
